Today, it’s been exactly 3 years since i’ve tried to get the truth out of the cesspool of corruption that is Knysna Tourism. It’s been repeated cover-up and denial by politicians and Board members. Several laws have been broken and they’ve put the message out there that there doesn’t haven’t to be accountability for the R4million in taxpayer’s cash they get every year. Cronyism rules. Fuck us, the public.
I have not forgotten this story! Pursuing it has been difficult. A distasteful propaganda campaigns is to paint me ANC, abusing the fact that so many white people will believe it because surely a white person daring to question the ‘sanctity’ of the DA must have a hidden agenda. Those who abuse prejudice, fear and hate are amongst the lowest beings. Sometimes it gets to me but, so far, i’ve always managed to dust myself off and get back at it. But being cut off from business makes staying alive my greatest challenge. And there is no salary for activism.
What happened is representative of the dark heart of our town because the same people still rule it. The same people are involved in other controversies where they too refuse to cooperate with the public (e.g. the ISDF, those expensive Jukes etc.). It’s also a scary reflection on the leadership of the Western Cape.
They cannot be trusted! And i’ve tried my hardest to make sure that you think twice when dealing with them.
There isn’t a single ANC, COPE or DA councillor who deserves to be re-elected. And the top management of the Municipality should be fired (though they deserve jail). There are a few who weren’t directly involved but keeping quiet whilst earning a salary (we pay them) is either cowardice or greed. And Helen Zille, my greatest disappointment, has been very aware of this injustice but chosen the image of the DA over our rights, criminality over justice. Knysna has proven to be a mere pawn in the DA’s provincial game for power.
Then there are our local newspapers, who have chosen to support the baddies which only makes sense if they value advertising revenues over truth. That isn’t journalism. That’s dishonesty and propaganda. And a betrayal of us.
What despairs me most is those of you in the local public who have deliberately turned a blind eye in the hope of getting your hands into the sponsorship pocket of Knysna Tourism and Knysna Municipality. There is no town worth calling home if we don’t have good neighbours.
I wish i could meet people who’d stand up for themselves.
I’m tired but i’m, somehow, still here.
Our watchdogs have proven useless. I’ve approached others.
