I never expected this ANC press release release so it’s not only a wonderful surprise but a welcomed nod to civilisation. The ANC’s approach of taking the moral high road in Bitou this year is most definitely the better approach. I hope that this attitude lasts and that Eden District towns such as Oudtshoorn learn from their example. More immediately, hoping that the DA and ANC get down to work together because there’s a lot of catching up to be done.
This statement issued by ANC Bitou Chief Whip Phakie Mbali on 18 September 2014:
The ANC wishes to congratulate the DA with its victory in Bitou.
We wish to thank all the voters that supported us as well as all the volunteers who assisted us during the election campaign.
The Bitou ANC councillors will go back to their jobs as opposition councillors in terms of the mandate laid down in s 152 of the Constitution, s 19(2) of the Structures Act and s 6(2) of the Systems Act.
We exist for the community, and will serve the community to the best of our ability.
Hard work lies ahead of us. We eagerly accept the challenge.
A luta continua!
