A Bad Night for Families in Gaza
My regular readers know that i hold no faith in religion as an indicator of morality but rather judge everyone by their actions. As has been proven so often in Knysna, good and evil is not determined by, for example, whether you are a Christian or a Moslem, English or Xhosa, black or yellow. Unfortunately, more revealing than action is non-action.
The only way forward is for people to work together. I found it inspiring how Christian and Moslem based schools in Cape Town have started inter-groups which is truer to their religions than Hamas or the Israeli war machine will ever be. What we have in common is far more important than where we differ.
I give you that as a prelude lest anyone misunderstand my inclusion of ‘Last Night Was the Worst Night by Far’, the YouTube recording above, which provides a perspective from a Palestinian, Khalid Elmezaini, as he, his family and neighbours are bombed. Personal perspectives are important. Having opinions about faraway places requires thinking yourself into a hypothetical, personal perspective.
I never meant to blog this topic again but my attention failed my intention to keep distance after i received the latest blog from Belvidere by Mike Wood, our local author and Knysna FM DJ. More than that, Mike Wood used to work for the British government (see his bio here) and has insight into some political affairs. Read his ‘An Unfair War Against a Palestinian Micro-State’.
