The blues infused, vocal-rock of Josie Field connects with the folk, country styles of Laurie Levine to create an intimate musical experience at Bloo Bistro in Knysna at 8pm on December 27 2015. Tickets are R100.
“The audience is enraptured by the angelic beauty coming from the stage.
And, surprise, surprise, their voices are finely tuned to each other.
This is world class, goose-bump material … I have discovered something wondrous.”
– Therese Owen, IOL Tonight
Dubbed the ‘Collaboration of the Year’, and winners of the Standard Bank Ovation award in Grahamstown in 2014, these two Joburg based singer songwriters have created a show that has gone from strength to strength over the last three years.
Following a string of successful national tours and the development of their well loved unique musical partnership, the singer songwriters have decided to take their collaboration to the next level by releasing their first co-written album – the first of its kind for two female South African singer songwriters.
‘Tigerlily’ is a rich blend of Josie Field’s deep, soulful blues tones with Laurie Levine’s velvet honey country inflections, with a strong focus on their elegant harmonies. After 16 years experience, nine albums and a dozen SAMA nominations between them, these songwriters have honed their craft on ‘Tigerlily’ with eleven beautifully constructed and catchy songs. The combination of earthy acoustic instruments such as banjo and ukulele with electric instruments such as pedal steel and dobro, solidify the duos new signature sound.
They will be launching the album with a nationwide tour of 30 shows in November through to January. The show comprises songs from the new album as well as some old favourites from previous tours.
“In a music-industry dominated by vapid celebrity hype and cheap sensationalist tactics,
this tour is brilliant in its ability to showcase two consummate artists,
who though at the top of their game, lack pretension or ego.”
– Alice Meyer, What’s on in Cape Town
