Help Knysna. It’s as easy as volunteering as a driver for 2-3 kids once per month (and make them sandwiches). We explore Knysna the fun way, for them and for you. Meet cool, new people whilst putting a smile on kids’ faces.

Amazing Hike in Goukamma Nature Reserve

Mike Hampton Posted on 30th May 2016 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

The latest Love Knysna Projects trip found us hiking in a World Heritage Site, the Goukamma Nature Reserve and Marine Protected Area which lies in between Knysna and Sedgefield. Sunday reminded us how lucky we are to live in the Garden Route! After we crossed the river by hand-pulled pontoon, our route was a mixture of the Bushpig Trail, through the Milkwood Forest, and the Galjoen Trail, along the coast via Skimmelkrans Beach. In between ,from the top of a fynbos covered hill, we experienced a magnificent view of the … Read the full article…

Volunteer: Have Fun Whilst Helping Knysna’s Kids

Mike Hampton Posted on 1st May 2016 by mikehampton1st May 2016

“You will never stand taller than when you kneel to help a child,” is a grand quote of sacrifice and community that we should all live by. However, when you become a volunteer at Love Knysna Projects, your only goal in kneeling is so that you can see children smile… and they can see you do the same. Volunteering has never been easier. We don’t expect money donations, just your your time and your positive attitude. The goal is to have fun whilst taking children on excursions to fun places … Read the full article…

Love Knysna Ladies Have Helped Schoolgirl’s Life

Mike Hampton Posted on 20th Feb 2016 by mikehampton20th Feb 2016

Thanks to Love Knysna ladies, it was hopefully a life-changing week for 18-year-old Knysna Secondary pupil, Ashwilene Anbraal a.k.a. Essie. On Tuesday, this week, i posted on Facebook that a teenager was desperately in need of help. Women were quick to respond, not only from Knysna but from Plettenberg Bay, George and Johannesburg too. Within a day, i had 4 packets of clothing (which included lots of school shirts). Within 3 days i had at least triple that as well as R1400. There’s even bigger news but i’ll leave that … Read the full article…

Kindness for Knysna Schoolgirls

Mike Hampton Posted on 14th Jan 2016 by mikehampton14th Jan 2016

A wonderful thing happened this week. I made an appeal on Facebook for help in purchasing school shoes for twin teens in need. Strangely, sadly, no one responded. But then, coincidentally, someone who had owed me R200 for months, paid me. So off we went to PEP Stores (opposite Checkers), thinking that’d be the cheapest place to get them. Unfortunately, i wouldn’t be able to get them socks as they’re the striped kind that costs a fortune elsewhere (R35 each, R26 more than a sock without a stripe) – why … Read the full article…

Quay 4 & SANParks Rocked Again

Mike Hampton Posted on 22nd Nov 2015 by mikehampton22nd Nov 2015

HOW & WOW With only 3 hours of our time, petrol and R590 we made 23 teenagers love Knysna more – that’s education and fun at a bargain! A month ago, we took a bunch of primary schoolers from Hornlee and Khayalethu to Quay 4 for breakfast and to Knysna SANParks for an educational talk about the endangered Knysna Seahorse. This time we did it with teenagers. THE TRIP With more volunteers, we are now able to separate the younglings from the teens. On a big outing, like the end … Read the full article…

Knysna Elephant Park Trip – Photo Gallery #2

Mike Hampton Posted on 9th Nov 2015 by mikehampton9th Nov 2015

As promised, here’s another batch of photos from Love Knysna Projects excursion to the Knysna Elephant Park (KEP). None of this would’ve been possible without our terrific volunteers on the day – Avril, Nathalie, Sage, Dee, Clint, Sista Kerri, Louise, Candice, Birgitt, Dee, Andrew and Mike. All KEP’s staff were friendly and helpful which made life much easier for us. Thanks to Alex for organising the bus and ensuring it ran on time – between that bus and 8 cars, coming from different directions, it was incredible that they arrived … Read the full article…

Knysna Elephant Park Trip – Photo Gallery #1

Mike Hampton Posted on 9th Nov 2015 by mikehampton9th Nov 2015

Love Knysna Projects held a sensational end-of-the-year party at the Knysna Elephant Park. It was part of the Experience Knysna! program. Kids and teens from Hornlee, Judah Square and Central Knysna smiled enough to light up our whole town. Thanks to park owners Ian & Lisette Withers – the sponsorship was worth R10 000! They never put a value to it but we added it up – so when we say thanks, we mean BIG THANKS. Geoffrey, head guide and the park’s longest running employee, is to be commended. He … Read the full article…
