Knysna’s Kids Meet Knysna’s Elephants

Mike Hampton Posted on 9th Nov 2015 by mikehampton9th Nov 2015

53 children and Love Knysna Project’s volunteers enjoyed an animal encounter and breakfast at Knysna Elephant Park (KEP) this Sunday past. For the children, it was an experience to be remembered. After watching an educational video that included how to safely interact with these beautiful animals, they received complimentary buckets of fruit to feed to the elephants. Wonder and giggles overcame hesitancy as hairy trunks plucked the food from their open palms. Benjy, a 7-year old from Judah Square whose known for his shyness, lit up as he became the … Read the full article…

The LifeTime You Have (in JellyBeans)

Mike Hampton Posted on 7th Nov 2015 by mikehampton7th Nov 2015

What will you do with your life? How much time does sleeping, eating, driving take up? How much time do you spend worrying? How much time will you have left to do something meaningful? Ask yourself these questions (and be inspired) as you watch the short jellybean video below:

Help Us Help Knysna’s Children

Mike Hampton Posted on 7th Nov 2015 by mikehampton7th Nov 2015

HELP US HELP KNYSNA’S CHILDREN… and have fun whilst doing so. Knysna is the prettiest town in South Africa but suffers from a great divide between the rich and the poor. Love Knysna Projects is a group of volunteers (mostly moms and dads) building a bridge, between those two worlds, for children. Children from disadvantaged backgrounds rarely get to experience the joys of their own town. When you ask them where they stay, some don’t answer with “Knysna”. Instead, they mention the suburb they come from or say “township, showing … Read the full article…

Fun & Education at Quay 4 & SANParks

Mike Hampton Posted on 28th Oct 2015 by mikehampton28th Oct 2015

16 kids between the ages of 6 and 13 experienced a good breakfast at Quay 4 on Thesen Islands in Knysna. It was part of the Love Knysna Projects Eat & Smile program which ensures that poorer kids visit restaurants so that they feel part of the town they live in. It’s important that, as they grow into adults, they realise that Knysna treats are available to them too. Quay 4’s staff were friendly and Julian and Owen, from management, went the extra distance by discounting the meals and ensuring … Read the full article…

2013 Has Been a Crazy Year of Up and Downs

Mike Hampton Posted on 5th Dec 2013 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

It’s been an interesting year filled with joys and challenges. I find it important to remind myself (and you) what this is all for. It’s been 4 years of offering free services to Knysna. In the beginning, it was simply to make a contribution to this town i love so much but, as hardships became apparent, the goal broadened into wanting to create positive change. This has meant wearing two hats; one that boasts about our town’s beauties whilst the other tackles the problems that threaten her.

Wicked Mike’s Open Letter to Knysna

Mike Hampton Posted on 17th Sep 2013 by mikehampton22nd Jan 2021

My name is Mike Hampton but most will know me by my blogging name, Wicked Mike. I am an activist, charity worker, web designer and blogger. I’d like to be considered as a community helper but my writings have gained me both supporters and detractors. It’s a contradiction that’s emphasised by falsehoods spread by some of those I oppose. I try to erase misunderstanding whenever I have the opportunity for a face to face conversation because knowing of me is not the same as knowing me. I’ve shone a light, … Read the full article…

Sea Conservation Fun with SAMSA

Mike Hampton Posted on 29th Apr 2013 by mikehampton29th Apr 2013

Love Knysna Projects was proud to play host to the SAMSA Sea Pledge Tour 2013 which was initiated by the wonderful crew from the Sustainable Seas Trust (SST). The 15-stop tour began in Saldanha Bay and will finish in Sodwana. SST is an NGO dedicated to restoring South Africa’s coastline through education and support for the people that rely on it. Their goal is to establish Hope Spots, a term coined by Dr Sylvia Earle for areas where the ocean will be protected so that life can flourish. Knysna is … Read the full article…

Our Mission

Mike Hampton Posted on 18th Jan 2013 by mikehampton18th Jan 2013

“Not only is another world possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.” – Arundhati Roy Love Knysna Projects (LKP) is the social responsibility arm of Love Knysna! which aims at uplifting the community of Knysna. The foundation is that our town belongs to all who live in it, no matter the colour of their skin or their bank balance. This is given statement through the slogan, “One Knysna, Our Knysna”.
