Thick Feet Social

Mike Hampton Posted on 7th Apr 2018 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020
thick feet

She walked in with no shoes which prompted an elderly gentleman at a neighbouring table to state questioningly, “Most women would be lost without a hundred pairs.” “It’s natural this way,” she replied as she held a whiskey in one hand and a 21-chemical cigarette in the other. “You don’t remember me?” he asked with the minimised bruised ego one would expect from a man over sixty-five. And when she never responded, he added, “We had a good conversation about a year ago…and I said that my wife would love … Read the full article…

The Death of Georgie Bumwheel (Part 2)

Mike Hampton Posted on 7th Apr 2018 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020
Georgie Bumwheel drunk devil

“Order, order in Heaven,” God demanded.  The angels quietened (lowering their eyes to look at their dresses).  They had been arguing over who would have the last piece of bubbleyum that had been given to them by Archangel Michael.  They quickly solved the dilemma by deciding to share the gum; three chews each. Satisfied, God continued.  “It is Judgement Day No. 6, Revelation Case 500 000 000 762  345 666.  Will Bum please take the stand.” “That’s Bumwheel,” protested the spirit in question. Georgie was in a foul mood.  For the past 63 … Read the full article…

The Death of Georgie Bumwheel (Part 1)

Mike Hampton Posted on 7th Apr 2018 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020
Georgie Bumwheel

Georgie Bumwheel wasn’t feeling well. He had been on his way home from Dirty Harry’s, the local pub, when, in the middle attempting to think of a decent excuse to tell the missus shy he was so incredibly late, a gigantic pink pig (incidentally it had reminded him very much of his missus whom he believed to be mankind’s closest resemblance to a ball) had waddled into the road. He swerved but since his senses were slightly muddled there was a whumph! as he squashed the pig. His last thoughts … Read the full article…

Civilised?

Mike Hampton Posted on 6th Apr 2018 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020
civilised light

Light… sun slips away from us and clouds become fondant shapes in the ebbing day… Dark… 50 sexual shades becoming one primeval electrical company called Eskom… The bat flickers from visibility to invisibility between the trees… Light… my fire yellows and oranges like a distant house lit by candles glowing through curtain… the odd oasis of solar power unmoving whilst car lights shine like concerts on tar… Streetlight… impassive, waiting… artificial life bursts on an island… Dark… those last seconds when true night squeezes my hand goodbye as electricity surges … Read the full article…

The Biggest Jigsaw

Mike Hampton Posted on 6th Apr 2018 by mikehampton15th Aug 2018
jigsaw

This umbilicus between contemplation and action is so havoced by grey that the stage we play on should never torture boredom but I find myself living mere moments that if they were all jigsawed together would maybe equal one day in a year of damp I slither from non-care to care-most and, somehow, unconsciously, persuade friendships from this maze that are more somnambulism than the conquering of loneliness and the fetid that accompanies it I give to them a part of me that they like more than not …but it’s … Read the full article…

The Map

Mike Hampton Posted on 6th Apr 2018 by mikehampton15th Aug 2018
map aeroplane

Today, I bought the world on a piece of paper, took it for a walk to the top of the highest hill I could find, and, with care, folded it- -and blinked geography goodbye! I separated Africa’s spending spree so that Indian fish holidayed in the cold Atlantic and the Reds surfed on Santa Monica’s Shore Saint Helena swam in the Mozambique Channel … yet it all felt the same as before I folded and folded until I set that paper aeroplane free on the longest wind in hope that … Read the full article…

Dream Dragons

Mike Hampton Posted on 6th Apr 2018 by mikehampton15th Aug 2018
dream dragons love lost

Our love used to soar high like two dragons in the sky We used to kiss and make love and cared less about gods above We moved in together, swore we’d face any weather A beautiful child was born and to each we were sworn Then one day we fought You said: “You’re not why I sought I slept with another man I’m no longer your all-time fan” The dream was harshly broken and all my tears spoken You and our dream child ran away I, with my fears, stayed … Read the full article…

Succubus

Mike Hampton Posted on 6th Apr 2018 by mikehampton15th Aug 2018
succubus

Love tangles like dirtied satin sheets The deafer I become, the louder your voice inside my head The daemons are beckoned to rape me on my dream of our bed Memory is more vicious than death Seeing beauty, saddens me so much that I paint the world ugly In the grey eternity, poems of hurting are labelled pretty Facing the fact is facing the fear Where do we go from here? Baby’s got other men inside her Dry reality incursions me I’m an old victim of gravity Solitude is not … Read the full article…
