Fly

Mike Hampton Posted on 6th Apr 2018 by mikehampton6th Apr 2018

The sun is calling out your name from a million miles away It’s an everyday feeling that you share with every one Didn’t you see it on T.V. (our species may die today)? How big is a problem when it’s seen from outer space? Would you hold my hand with faith, go with to that better place? Would you cry, lie down and die or murder your tears and fly? Every secret is a bullet and every death a shame We dream in rock ‘n roll, awake, point fingers and … Read the full article…

Hypocrites: God, Knysna Politicians & the Pastor

Mike Hampton Posted on 23rd Apr 2017 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

MY SERVANT, WAKE UP. Mmmm, whose there? [yawn] Is there someone at the door? I AM YOUR GOD. I AM EVERYWHERE… INCLUDING AT THE DOOR. My Lord, My Lord, you’ve heard my prayers! Oh, what joyous morning in Knysna. NOT SO JOYOUS, MY SERVANT CALLED JUDAS But… err… My Lord, i fear you have the wrong house. DO YOU CHALLENGE THE LORD AND HIS SENSE OF DIRECTION? DO NOT, FOR I AM EVERYWHERE AS I AM CERTAIN I TOLD YOU BEFORE. I would never challenge my Dear Lord… it’s just… … Read the full article…

Dark Places…

Mike Hampton Posted on 22nd Apr 2017 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

“I hadn’t thought about what was wrong with Ellie, not even when i parked the car. Kids get sick. But unlike the old gettin sick, kids normally get sick to get stronger, their immune system and all that stuff. It was certainly a surprise when I saw her dead body and, because I didn’t know what to say at first, I got to have a good look.   She was more startlin because she was on her back, lookin at me if she coulda looked. Her tiny face carried no … Read the full article…

My Knysna Breakdown Heart

Mike Hampton Posted on 3rd Jan 2017 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

MY KNYSNA BREAKDOWN HEART When did I become a one-stop, a holiday breakdown flop? In my pipes, roots rip my heart Under tourists, my roads fall apart In the dark, humans are powerless and government always faultless Look closely at me and you’ll see that the hurting Knysna I am isn’t the town I used to be… isn’t the town I KNOW I CAN BE. The Halloween Birth

Mike Hampton Posted on 30th Oct 2016 by mikehampton6th Jan 2021

I’m keeping my promise to myself to steer clear of Facebook in general until next year but did pre-schedule a few posts. This is the first of two Halloween contributions, respectively a fiction and a non-fiction. You can tell me after you’ve read both which is the real horror… THE HALLOWEEN BIRTH The woman’s corpse lay sprawled like some adult’s forgotten doll. Her mouth, stained by scream, underlined her strained facial muscles and eyes that terror had mutilated into bloated orbs. Her ripped clothing exposed flesh from torso to thighs; … Read the full article…

God & the Devil Made Love in Knysna

Mike Hampton Posted on 1st Jun 2016 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

VOLCANO LIFE Though the curtain, my bedroom changed to orange and my day became wondrous The sky was a volcano, god and the devil unashamedly making love No surprise both were women They smiled at me, hugged me, kissed me, washed me, filled me- -my successes become failures my failures successes… and together they became nothing whilst i became part of EVERYTHING The greatest dawn in the prettiest town, Knysna. It was a kindness at the start of a tough month coming, a reminder to think bigger. Here, the fight for, … Read the full article…

Poem for Low Earner’s & the Unemployed

Mike Hampton Posted on 2nd May 2016 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

A Winter’s parable on Worker’s Day observed, to remind us of those that work hard but don’t earn enough… those who want to work but sit unemployed…. and especially those who try father and mother shivering children who don’t have school shoes and are screaming hungry inside… this is for those struggling in a South Africa, a Rainbow Nation to the politically greedy and corporate thieving… HUNGER For six days, i left the world around me and entered a desert devoid of life On the second day, the Devil paid … Read the full article…

Suicide in the Leaves of Knysna

Mike Hampton Posted on 6th Apr 2015 by mikehampton14th Nov 2020

I never knew their names but yesterday, as I sat in the early chill outside, i enjoyed the company of Blue, Yellow, Green, Black, Grey and Orange birds as they chirpily accepted wriggly worms from the mud of overnight storms. It sent me to a happy mood which was interrupted by finding this poor fellow, discarded by nature before he or she could fly through Life. The fall from the tree made me think of suicide and how little we know about it in Knysna. We even call that cold, … Read the full article…
