I’m a fan of Cover Me, an online music zine based in the USA that points me at tributes. Cover songs not only show appreciation for musical heroes but ensure that their music reaches new generations.

I was super pleased to find Knysna’s Maya-Rose Torrao included in their latest article which featured The Decemberists’ album, The Crane Wife. Maya-Rose had covered their ‘Summersong’.

I’ve never met Maya-Rose but interviewed her via email after she did well in the 2012 De Beers English Olympiad. She was a student of Oakhill School then. Now she’s studying at UCT.
