Being morally and politically outraged in two directions, against the ANC and the DA, threatens to tear me (and our country) apart. Just as we’re told that Zuma and Motlanthe, South Africa’s President and Deputy President, took holidays to foreign countries at cost of R2.6million to the taxpayer, it’s revealed that a mystery, foreign donor was promoting DAgang, the merger between the DA and AGANG, Helen Zille and Mamphela Ramphele.
It’s long being a concern that foreign forces are influencing our country but that spotlight has always being fixated on the ANC’s relation with China and the hidden workings of Chancellor House (don’t forget our Oilgate scandal in which it was alleged that ANC officials received R11 million in kickbacks from secret oil deals with Saddam Hussein).
The fact is that the DA also refuse to reveal the source of their funding which hangs a big question mark over their relationship with big business (especially when it’s grossly against the will of the public as in the case of the Knysna ISDF and the Plett Small Boat Harbour).
Considering The New Age newspaper’s relationship with the ANC, DA supporters (and myself) don’t believe the impartiality so may have been suspect that they were the one to reveal, after an interview with Ramphele, that a mystery international donor was key to talks between her and Zille: “A donor pushed the DA and Agang SA together,” said Ramphele.
But Helen Zille, in an interview with John Robbie, of Talk Radio 702, who at first said that that she would never be part of such a deal, then admitted, under pressure, that she knew who the donor was. How did she go from, “You know I would never do that, I don’t go in for those kind of deals, ” to, “Yes I do [know who the donor is]… I don’t think it’s my job to tell anyone.” ???
To remind you, 7 days ago, i said, “And, maybe, even, Ramphele’s business connections can add more anonymous funds to the DA war chest. Is any of this done in the spirit of democracy?”
There will, of course, be another clever newsletter from Helen Zille giving her supporters something to cling their bias to but with so many cracks in the DA’s virginity this year, even hardcore DA members will be wondering what the hell is going on.
Politics corrupts. And, maybe, in South Africa, it corrupts even more. A country is being fought for and the people behind it have totally bamboozled a willing public into a politically supportive Good Guy versus Bad Guy mentality. It has become them versus the public, them versus us.
It’s time to wake up and stop buying into this ANC versus DA, and DA versus ANC, bullshit.
