Mmusi Maimane, the leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in South Africa, is in Israel against the wishes of the ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC)

That the controversial Taiwanese trip is followed so closely by this suggests ulterior motive and a bowing to the USA and Europe where it is rumoured that the Democratic Alliance (DA) gets the bulk of its donations. The DA, however, refuses to reveal it’s sources but the most famous of them is Jewish billionaire Nathan Kirsh who is/was a director of a company that is/was the main supplier of electronic fences for the controversial security fence project in the West Bank which was declared illegal by the International Court of Justice.

In 2014, Helen Zille, then leader of the DA, refused to answer the Israel/Palestine question on behalf of the party. She dodged pressure by answering for herself but on the DA’s letterhead. The media let her get away with that song and dance routine, no surprise since most media seems to work for the DA.

The motives of power must always be held in suspicion. When South Africa gets involved in unnecessary conflict, it must be considered that there’s hidden agenda afoot, the kind that benefits the few rather than the public at large. I’m as much against the DA siding with the West as i’m against the ANC siding with China. We must learn a lesson from the mess that is Europe. South Africa must be independent.

The DA must not use South Africa as an international football, seeking to score an own goal that loses the game for us.

South Africa must have focus internally whilst, as much as possible, being friends with the whole world.

Hopefully the Democratic Alliance practices fairness and true diplomacy, visiting similar leaders in the West Bank of Palestine too.
