Eden Mayor Wessie van der Westhuizen has accused Nayler and Tertius Simmers of misleading the Council.
Contrary to biased media, the DA is a lot like the ANC, especially with candidates being announced for the forthcoming elections. The DA has been reported as having 5 councillors in hot water and, as a party, voted against following Public Protector’s Thuli Madonsela’s findings in another matter.
It should be noted that Van der Westhuizen has been no stranger to controversy himself the past three years and this may just be a continuation of his battle to stay in power.
At the heart of the current matter is an alleged forgery of a police document that states that Simmers is no longer under investigation for electricity theft. Nayler apparently presented the letter to the Council.
“A senior DA councillor in the Eden District municipality is in hot water, facing an internal party probe and a police investigation for allegedly forging a police letter and submitting it as evidence during a council meeting. Tertius Simmers, a member of the municipality’s mayoral committee, is accused of not only misleading council by tabling a suspected fraudulent letter, but forging it to convince council that the theft case against him had been finalised and scratched from the roll.”
