This is the most cruel, heartless, bitchy statement I’ve read in Knysna.
It’s horrendous that after victims of the Knysna fire were refused help by Deputy Mayor Peter Myers, his wife, Candace Myers, made a post on social media as if the victims were being unreasonable and that he and she were the victims of the meeting.
That meeting was their disaster unless you measure success in cruelty. They are out of touch with us common folk, riding a horse way too high for them to call us neighbour, let alone pretend that he’s our representative.
Here’s her full speech:
“Probably my lowest point in the two years since Pete has been in office.
So, the municipality should somehow immediately find more money to solve the problems for people of Ward 10.
We need to solve the problems and issues for those who didn’t insure their homes or were underinsured.
Find housing for people who were renting, but not tented accommodation.
Tell people with homes in Knysna that are standing empty, that they need to rent to people at a rental that they will be instructed.
Keep feeding, and clothing people indefinitely.
The municipality must fund all the rehabilitation, clean up, provide additional security, solve housing issue, control the rental market price, employ more municipal staff, communicate to each resident personally on every decision immediately, tell residents which builders to use, not charge any rates and taxes, or forgo any building charges and so forth.
Find more space for dumping immediately, and not charge, even if it’s private property.
No one wants to hear about any previous problems, money restriction, time restrictions, definitely don’t care about the law, which should only apply when it suits “our” purposes.
The money apparently is in the disaster fund. Last check the balance was approximately 1 million rand. Lots of pledges, but not much in the account, so that obviously means, the people in the municipality and the politician have stolen the money.
I have never seen so much entitlement ever. Anyway, I am stepping away. I have spent 16-18 hours per day for the past 4 weeks, as have many volunteers, municipal staff (some of whom also lost everything), doing as much as humanly possible to help. I cannot stand by and watch this abuse anymore.
I saw the worse in people tonight. People who have their own agenda, and don’t care about anyone but themselves.”
