Incredible Wall Painting at Piccola Italia
It’s no secret that Knysna is a magnet for creative types. Some are like artist Mark Stevens, exceptionally talented but unconcerned with fame whilst seeking a simple life that’s surrounded by the beauty that is Knysna.
Mark’s styles are ecletic. In his career, that’s ranged from political to socio, portraits to landscapes. His mediums have included pencil, paint, stone, wood, clay, wax, palster and bronze. His influences include Lautrec, Duchamp, Dali, Da Vinci and South Africans such as Walter Batiss, Braam Kruger and Martin Wessels.
An amazing example of Mark’s work can be found across an entire wall inside Piccola Italia, the coffee shop in Woodmill Lane. It’s an enormous piazza scene featuring many characters you will know. And you can be one of them. For a reasonable fee, you (friends and family) can be included in this artwork. Pop in for a coffee and have a look. You can get hold of Mark on 079 311 5614.
I have been a fan of Mark’s art for a few years now and fortunate enough to photograph alot of his art that he’s since sold. He also has done an amazing mural of animals at Inyathi. I too wish he could have an exhibition and get some credit for his work as he is very humble…
That’s fab to know. At the very least, we can put up a gallery online one day.
These are cool!
Gosh, all that detail, must have taken a while.
I think that he’s been at it on and off for over a year now. Already part of our town’s character.
Beautiful article of a good friend!
I hope Mark figures out how to retrieve all his art from Pretoria one day. I’d love to see an exhibition.
