Insane Art Prices Reflect Rich vs Poor World
The world is insane.
Picasso’s ‘Women of Algiers’ painting sold for R2.26-billion. Alberto Giacometti’s ‘Pointing Man’ statue sold for R1.7-billion.
No matter how much i appreciate art and history, i cannot appreciate the wealth that is flung around as if to prove that inequality is getting worse. In Britain, the 100 richest people doubled their total worth the past decade. For that to happen, poor people have to get poorer.I’m not attacking the rich (we all want to be rich) but with wealth must come social responsibility.
The average Joe and Jane on the street will find it almost impossible to get ahead. Real inflation plus taxes is higher than the interest they earn i.e. no matter how much they save, they’re getting poorer. The system will never fix itself without revolution.
