Ist Knysna Sea Scouts Cycle for Charity
15-year-olds Liam Rissik and James Morawsky from the Ist Knysna Sea Scouts will be cycling 230km from Prince Albert to Knysna to raise money to buy bicycles for the Knysna Sports School.
I met with Liam and his mother, Karen Rissik, to find out more. They said that the journey was planned for 6-9 October, starting in Prince Albert and finishing in Knysna. The route would meander through the Klein Karoo, opting more for farm roads and train tracks than tarred roads.
Liam said that he was hoping that a third scout would be joining them but that would depend on whether they could get a third bicycle repaired in time. Karen said that she’d be driving a back-up vehicle with a first-aid kid, water and camping gear.
Liam is a Grade 10 student at the Knysna Montessori School. He undertook this journey with his uncle when he was a tender 12 years of age. Even then it was for charity (see CX Express photos below). James Marawksy attends Bay College in Plettenberg Bay.
The goal is to raise R10 000 to purchase 2 bicycles for the Knysna Sports School development team. Any additional funds will go to the Ist Knysna Sea Scouts.
If you meet the lads, please consider donating. Or you can simply contact Karen Rissik via 082 344 0421 / karen_rissik@hotmail.com.
