Experience Knysna! is a Love Knysna Projects’ initiative. The dual goal is for education and to ensure that Knysna is a town for all. Particularly, we treat kids and teens to trips to places in their own town that they’ve never enjoyed before. This is done in the hope of cultural integration and dreaming i.e. the bigger the world you experience, the more you’re likely to believe you can achieve. Nurture and reward is also important.
Julie Jacobs (17) and Tania Hendricks (14) are students of the new Concordia High. They live with their families in Judah Square, Khayalethu. Both have been on previous trips and, on their last, separately, they were helpers with the younglings. Giving them more responsibility was the next step so i asked them to take a census of their community. This meant talking to each adult so that not only could the population be determined but know who was family, how old they are, how long had they lived in Judah Square and which schools the kids went to. They did a wonderful job!
Pezula Spa and Gym was quick to saying yes to helping with their reward. What could teen girls find better than being pampered at a spa! And that was confirmed when Tania, in a letter, stated sweetly, “To Mike: A very smart person:) Who would think of rewarding us with a pampering Sunday?”
Both wrote blogs about their wonderful day. Tania’s can be read on the Judah Square’s website as The Best Sunday Ever!. Here’s Julie’s:
My friend, Tania, and I had the privilege of making a trip to the Conrad Pezula resort, courtesy of a family friend. I was grasped by the beauties of their property, decorated with trees and flowers. This was my second trip to Pezula, bearing in mind my previous visit was a school-like gathering. Walking up the driveway, Tania, my Mom, Sista Kerri and I noticed the exquisite design of the buildings.
We were greeted and directed towards Pezula Spa and Gym. A friendly assistant introduced herself gracefully and gave us keys to our own lockers where we would find a gown and slippers.
Before entering the room for our manicure and pedicure, we were asked to choose a colour for our nails. We lay on a massage like bed and wore a sleeping mask. The process of cleaning and polishing the nails were well done and pain free. The end result was amazing – glittered sheer for me and Barbie pink for Tania.
Afterwards, we lay on a waterbed that had a gentle movement that soothed our back and neck muscles. We were offered a selection of beverages and chose an apple/fibre smoothie. We reconnected with my Mom and Sista Kerri where we overlooked a mini-golf course. We took pictures and then relaxed on deck chairs. We told my Mom and Siata Kerri about the treatments and our nerves of excitement.
Tania and I also had free access to the pool and the sauna. Unfortunately, time was limited but I was curious to find out what goes down in the steam room. The 48 degrees Celsius heat boiled my skin to a soft pink before I spent time in the pool, floating from side to side.
My stay was very much enjoyed – rejuvenating my mind and body with class.
Thanks again to Mike and Pezula Spa and Gym for giving us this relaxing experience. Myself and Tania really appreciated it – it was awesome!
