Knysna, Public Protector & Me
I have reported the Knysna Municipality, politicians and officials, to the Public Protector.
My blogging on political issues has gained me wider readership than the Knysna locals it was originally intended for. As the DA, ANC & COPE (and, more recently, the KUC and ACDP) failed to address important issues of maladministration and crime affecting our town, i blogged more.
Consistency must be some reward because people in Cape Town, besides Premier Helen Zille (who also refuses to act), are now reading our political horror stories e.g. over 14,000 people viewed a post about our Mayor Eleonore Bouw-Spies’ seeming conflict of interest.
Consequently, i’ve had several meetings with diverse groups, from provincial EFF to the VF+. I will always be independent but willing to accept help from any quarter that increases the chance of uncovering truth and, if necessary, consequence.
I have to be practical whilst under propaganda attack from the DA that Helen Zille and Eastern Region Manager Jaco Londt have no interest in stopping (consequently, i’m of the belief that the terrible things happening to me and our town must be to their benefit).
Additionally, i’m literally battling to survive so have to accelerate my efforts.
General Niel van Heerden, one of the leaders of the Freedom Front Plus (FF+), met me twice. As he’s an ex-bigwig in the SAPS, i believed him when he expressed to me that one of his greatest concerns is corruption in Eden District.
I don’t trust the George office of the Public Protector. They failed to act, once for a lie and the other for no reason, forcing me to present issues to Parliament. But General Niel van Heerden was so appalled at what’s been happening, and so convinced that the Public Protector would act, that he offered help. Consequently, several of my complaints will be submitted by the FF+ who’ve promised a committed interest into Knysna.
My completed submissions, approximately 50-pages (excluding evidence) are:
- The Communications contract that Mayor Eleonore Bouw-Spies and Acting Municipal Manager Carl Mattheus don’t believe needed to be advertised.
- The Mazar’s forensic report on the business activities of DA Councillor Rowan Spies, romantic partner of Mayor Bouw-Spies.
- The alleged illegal appointment of Dawie Adonis as Director Community Services, it having been approved by then DA Mayor, now Speaker Georlene Wolmarans.
Further issues to be presented will include a Knysna Fire & Rescue Department scandal, the Knysna Municipality choosing not to help but instead attack me.
If Knysna’s leadership cared, surely they’d commit to transparency, communication and the necessary action thereafter.
Mayor Bouw-Spies, my offer remains – LET’S HAVE A PUBLIC MEETING. If there’s nothing to hide, then please stop hiding. Let’s evaporate the dark clouds over Knysna. I’d rather live in town where we have open coffee discussions instead of the drama of a fighting arena.
