It was a pleasure to witnesses the good deeds of the Knysna Gossip Girls (KGG) this past Friday. They were at Vermont Old Aged Home in Hornlee to deliver presents and food to a lovely group of aging ladies and gentleman. There were so many presents!
It was a group effort!
Claudia Pirker (Treasures4u), Brenda McKechnie (Finishing Touch) and Charlene Turpin were coordinators of collections. Mandy Engelbrecht (Elephant Hide) helped pack all the bags. Zoi Kazakos (Pezula Spa) donated over 100 towels and her boys helped on the day as did Claudia’s son, Michael. Erin Young from Oakhill School baked cookies and helped distribute them. Pierre Opperman performed music for the crowd and soon had Brenda singing along. Ingrid Botha from the Knysna-Plett Herald covered the event.
I sat with a lovely group of elderly people who were eager for conversation. They all spoke well of Vermont. One lady in a wheelchair lit up the room with her smile when Pierre covered an Elvis Presley track. “He’s my favourite,” she said. She got another Elvis song whilst Zoe danced with her, holding her hands and moving the wheelchair to and fro. She was utterly delighted.
The eldest person i met was a lady called Dora. She’s 96-years-old! And her mind is still very much with her. She had a lot to say:)
When asked what they needed, a xmas tree was on the list. Within minutes of posting that on KGG’s Facebook, Penny Foyn donated it. Decorations will arrive from various ladies and the lights from Treasures4u.
Well done to the ladies and children of Knysna!
