Knysna Municipal Manager in Car Crash – 2 Dead
The seasonal, holiday toll of accidents continues unabated. Knysna’s Municipal Manager, Lauren Waring, was in a car crash in Willowmore (which is approximately 150km inland from Knysna.
Tragically, Waring’s husband and mother are dead. Her and her daughter are in the Mediclinic in George with broken bones but will survive. Waring is apparently undergoing surgery today.
Waring is a well known and infamous figure on this blog which is why i waited a day for confirmation before reporting lest i be insensitive with inaccuracy. Similarly, i haven’t reported on other bad news in her life this year as i’ve waited for her to go public with it first.
The issues involving Waring on the Knysna Keep remain relevant as they would for any public figure (anywhere in the world) which is why my pursuit of justice will continue but i am saddened by her loss. Losing those we love is extremely difficult. I’m thankful that her daughter survived and hope that they will give each other comfort during this difficult period.
Please be safe. The roads are nuts at this time of the year. South Africa has one of the worst accident rates in the world. Don’t get used to that fact because it has become routine in our lives! Be careful. Enjoy your holiday by arriving alive.
Update: According to the Cape Times, the accident involved 3 cars on the N9 between Aberdeen and Willowmore. Holidaymakers overtook another vehicle, hitting the vehicle that Lauren Waring was driving, causing them to flip so that they took out the 3rd vehicle (that had been overtaken). A holidaymaker was also killed.
Immense sympathy for Ms Waring. It just goes to show that none of us are immune from the chaos that engulfs our roads each year at the peak of our holiday season.
