The Knysna Ubuntu Party, which appears to have been formed a week ago, will be contesting the 2016 Municipal Elections.
I have admiration for the Ubuntu Party nationally, having occasionally posted news from their associated websites, but i’m curious how they fit into the local context.
Change is important but having an understanding of local issues is as important as is a willingness to learn how our local government works or doesn’t.
Apparently, the Freedom Front (FF+) and Economic Freedom Fighters will be running too. As will more independents than ever before.
But the Ubuntu Party, EFF and independents are the same as the DA, ANC and ICOSA in that they have not informed the public of their local agenda. Unless they do, in a practical and achievable manner, they will only be parties furthering party agendas instead of the public.
Worse is that all, except for the DA (whose list was a shocker), haven’t bothered to tell us their candidates despite the elections being only 7 weeks away.
I’m glad that we have more contestants for this election but hoping that they make their appearance quickly and meaningfully.
