More important than these people possibly being your neighbour, or a parent of a child that goes to school with your child, or a member of your bowling club, is that they are responsible for many cover-ups in Knysna. Would you allow your daughter or son to steal and not be punished? Of course not. So why do these people get a free pass for all their lies?
Particularly, after 32 months, these people, and more, have failed to provide a detailed budget of Knysna Tourism. We need to know who got their share of the millions before they became bankrupt and were forced to borrow half a million from the municipality, in advance of the R4million that came after.
It is criminal that Lauren Waring, the Municipal Manager, told the Public Protector that she could not help them because Tourism is a Section 21 company… intentionally leaving out the facts that she is a Board director, the loan had to be approved by her, and that the company was set up with the Municipality. There will be those who’ll want to slam me because of the car accident last year in which some of her family died – it was incredibly tragic… but how does that excuse her from her disservices to Knysna? Do you preach the same leniency to all those in the South African government who are screwing us over? Do you sympathise with Malema, Zuma and others when they’re faced with difficult personal times?
Understand that i believe so much in us deserving honesty from those who are suppose to serve us that i’m prepared to risk court action, now more than ever, because we’re running out of time – the tender has gone out for new loans to our bankrupt town and salary hikes are around the corner.
Worse is that most of these people had to be involved to approve paying Greg Vogt R20 000 per month… and they all know that that is illegal… which is probably why they wouldn’t give me the constitution (even when i was a member of Tourism… but i got it… and it’s damning). And Vogt lied to the Public Protector, saying that he’d being helpful towards me but i was determined to be difficult… when in fact he’s being difficult so that he could keep control of Knysna Tourism which has had no CEO for 16 months.. us, a tourist town, with no one at the helm of what should be the most important tool towards our economy.
The lies seem to have no end.
There are rumours afoot that the plan is to phase out Knysna Tourism i.e. close it down – maybe they think that it’ll be easier to hide the truth from the public that way. And, maybe, the drop in the last 2 budgets was a step towards that.
What we know for certain is that they’ve kept the doors shut tight which has nothing remotely to do with democracy… nor the promise repeatedly made by Mayor Georlene Wolmarans, the same women who threatened the public regards the ISDF, that her election campaign was based on the promise of transparency, austerity and an open door police.
I name and shame these people because they, and this situation, are not only an embarrassment to our town, but serious damage amplified by these tough times for small businesses. Good people would have cleared up this mess a long time ago. Only bad people with something to hide would have allowed me to keep them in such dark light for so long. They need to go. People acting against our town belong in jail.
My only regret is that i could not fit in photos of all those involved… but there can always be a second edition (so head’s up to all on the accounting committee, audit committee, past and current Board directors, and Ward committee groupies).
It’s impossible for Helen Zille not to be aware of this situation after my letters and intensive campaigning, after it’s been reported back that my name and this has been mentioned in meetings with ministers. So when will Helen Zille step in and sort the mess her councillors, in collusion with others, such as the ANC’s Stephen de Vries, have sunk us into.
We deserve the truth. We deserve better.
