The Knysna-Plett Herald made a bloody good point that i missed: The advertised position of Municipal Manager stipulates that applicants must be able to speak two of the three main languages – Grant Easton only knows one. That may sound small to some of you but, legally, they have to stick 100% to the requirements.
Effectively, they seem to have chosen Easton before the position was advertised because it’s the most likely way this could have happened (and i warned you of that beforehand, the same way i warned you that it would happen with the previous MM).
There’s underhandedness at play. Not to mention that the re-advertising has cost Knysna a small fortune (we’ll have to discover exactly how much).
Unless they give it to another candidate, they would have to re-advertise a third time or face prosecution. Practically, they need a new selection panel that re-scores all the candidates.
They really are scoundrels. Wouldn’t surprise me if that questionable selection panel (which included Mayor Georlene Wolmarans) tried to backtrack on the attitude that delayed his appointment last week. To try ensure that they don’t, i submitted a list of matters they have to investigate (and the laws that compel them too).
I also put Easton’s name #1 on the list of 38 people that i reported to the Hawks whose response i still await.
