Is this the beginning of the end for this generation of corruption in the Western Cape of South Africa?
What i thought was maladministration in our small town of Knysna exploded like Marmite into cover-up and corruption, splattering on the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) power base in Cape Town.
WE WERE FOOLS
The Western Cape is its own country wherein we’ve been taught ANC-nee/DA-lekker. In the land of GodZille, liberals supposedly fight against dirty Zumas for a cleaner South Africa. None of us were watching whilst the DA’s teeth got dirty too.
Our convenient world of Omo versus Marmite is fake. Corruption doesn’t distinguish by political affiliation. Tender fraud and cronyism isn’t the property of the ‘swaart gevaar’ but rather the dirty secret of all political parties. Even the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) has spread itself like a slice of bread waiting for some of the DA’s Marmite.
If you don’t know what i’m talking about then you should spend a day in the past 6 years of my life at www.knysnakeep.org/important-articles. For those who’ve long used the internet as windows into my activism and strange happenings, keep reading here…
On Wednesday, May 24 2017, at 8.30am, Parliament’s Select Committee Petitions & Executive Undertakings was to make a ruling on my complaints against the DA and Knysna Municipality regards aforementioned crimes which include intimidation, complicity and conspiracy via propaganda and abuse of the courts. I consider Helen Zille, Mmusi Maimane and Anton Bredell as guilty as Knysna Mayor Eleanore Spies and Speaker Georlene Wolmarans.
Newspapers of disgrace that favour the DA won’t be there. The Mail & Guardian, Sunday Times, Knysna-Plett Herald and others have fallen from my worship. To me, as a writer and reader, journalism via favouritism represents most how low our country has slithered.
I said the Committee “WAS to make a ruling”. Instead, 15 months after my oral presentation, new Committee Chairperson Moses Mhlanga has decided to hold another day of hearing. That’s a positive decision considering my supplementary evidence is now larger than my original submission.
Presentations will be made by Western Cape Treasury, Auditor General, Public Protector Manager Sune Griessel and Knysna Mayor Eleanor Spies.
Treasury and the Public Protector have suspiciously failed to supply me with their submissions (despite PAIA request).
There will be much Marmite lip-licking… but Marmite doesn’t lick off easily. Similarly, i’m not predicting victory for the Public over corruption because beating the DA is undoubtedly as difficult as fighting the oil industry – they’re backed by billionaires whereas all we’ve got is truth in a country where liars rule.
Is this the beginning of the end or, uncomfortably, the end of the beginning?
