Never Take Anything for Granted
Despite living in Knysna their whole 15 years, the twins, Sarika and Juanita, had never even seen Woodmill Lane before! I’ve remarked about people being in a restaurant for the first time but not having walked through our local mall was surprising… and saddening. I asked them what they normally do for fun and they said that they listen to the radio (no TV at home).
That put me on a mission, fueled by your help, to show them our town.
I bought the girls an umbrella but i got soaked (it poured yesterday) until Nicky (thank you) became our taxi 3 hours later.
They had their first Mocca Java at Chaplin’s Bistro, first visit to Thesen Islands (tour of our lovely Turbine Hotel), and first visit to the Knysna Waterfront (breakfast special and first cappuccino). The Chukka was on so it was also the first time they’d seen or heard of “water polo”.
We ordered school jerseys at Sammy D’s, got matching red winter jackets in Main Street, spent a R400 gift voucher on stationery at OSU (thank you, Samantha!), and got very affordable scarves, books and National Geographic magazines at Hospice. I also bought them R10 CDs there but discovered that they didn’t have a CD player at home frown emoticon
Thanks very much to Nicky for chauffeuring them back to Concordia.
Guaranteed we’ll see the twins again. After all, they have to visit Leisure Isle! And in a couple of weeks, some of the local teens who’ve helped on the LKP trips, will take them to Knysna Mall and do something that’s supposed to be normally teenish… like get their nails done smile emoticon
Thanks to everyone who helped! Except for blazers, they now have everything they need for school. Plus their uncle, who helps the family, has brooms and mops which he and another needed for a 2-day a week job in the industrial area.
There are many people in Knysna whose lives we can make better. Find a family and help out. Sometimes little things mean a lot. The twins were certainly smiling!
