That’s not rain, God’s pissing on Cape Town’s politics

Not rain - God pissing on Cape Town politics and the Democratic Alliance

The only reason why it finally rained on Cape Town is because God was pissing on their politics.

The latest move by the Democratic Alliance (DA) against Mayor Patricia de Lille is to strip her of her powers. In future, she will be subordinate to the MAYCO and the MAYCO will run the city.

That’s absurd because “MAYCO” is short for Mayoral Committee. It’s her committee. She chose who became a portfolio councillor which led to them becoming her MAYCO member. And, if they were a PR (proportional representative) councillor, that resulted in their salary almost doubling. How can people she chose to advise her now rule her?

This will mean another round in Court. Maybe, as she claimed, James Selfe and his DA Federal Executive want to ruin her with repeated court battles (the same way they tried to ruin me in Knysna).

I’m not supporting Patricia de Lille. I’m not a fan. But I believe in rules keeping check and balance on our government because it is OUR government – it doesn’t belong to the politicians as a gutter to wash away our rights.

This latest move doesn’t encourage people to become DA candidates for the forthcoming election unless they’re originally the self-serving sort that don’t care about their town and are rather happy to gain crumbs from the Royal Court of the DA Federal Executive.

As young adults, we’d drink lots of beer and then remark on whoever pissed the longest. God must be helluva drunk…
