The not-so-secret Webber Wentzel investigation into Oudtshoorn
Today’s Council meeting in Oudtshoorn is likely to be scandalous. But controversy is all the town knows, so maybe it’s business as usual, as it has been the past decade. It’s a neverending political ‘sex’ scandal.
The ANC screwed the town. Then the ANC and DA, together, screwed the town. Then the Western Cape Government screwed the town. Now the DA and the Western Cape Government, together, are doing the screwing. When the Public hasn’t given permission to be bent over, there’s no pleasure, only rape.
MACPHERSON & LE ROUX
The DA has parachuted in Chris MacPherson as their Mayoral candidate. They haven’t explained why he was unpopular in the party for the 2016 elections but is now their press release hero. Under normal circumstances, he would’ve been elected already but he’s got his own scandal this week, and the DA can’t avoid the two Webber Wentzel reports.

Julia Le Roux (DA)
Instead of getting a new mayor, Oudtshoorn may lose several DA councillors. Notably, Speaker Julia le Roux is on the chopping block. She and several of her colleagues face a motion of no confidence for their alleged interference in the administration. It’s an interesting situation because the DA has the vast majority of council seats, and is known to protect their own whether they’re guilty or not. However, political parties normally have opposing factions within. Will Le Roux go? That’ll be decided by whether or not her faction has the power.
The faction with the most power is normally the one supported by Premier Alan Winde, MEC Local Government Anton Bredell and the DA Federal Executive. In truth, there’s no democracy. Cape Town is the power in all small towns. Citizens are pawns.
THE WEBBER WENTZEL REPORTS
The Webber Wentzel investigation will make today’s Council meeting exceptional. The front cover of both reports state:
“PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL: This report contains private, privileged and confidential information, and the content hereof may not be quoted, referred to, disclosed, disseminated, copied or in any way published, in whole or in part, without our prior written consent.”
That’s nonsense. Truth in the Public interest is the utmost importance. And allegedly R2-million of the Public’s money was used to create these documents.
Unsurprisingly, on 16 July, DA Mayoral Candidate Chris MacPherson told me that it was illegal for me to publish it. That showed that he’s not on the Public’s side.
It’s more disappointing that Die Hoorn newspaper has stood against their release. The reports are two-months-old and were leaked over one month ago. To not address isn’t journalism, instead suspiciously like supporting a political party. I faced the same in Knysna when I published the Mazars report against Rowan Spies, the DA district councillor whose wife, Eleanore Spies, is Oudtshoorn’s DA constituency representative. The local newspaper wouldn’t publish and Mazars threatened to sue me, showing that they valued the politicians more than the Public they were ultimately supposed to be representing.
There’s the expected propaganda. Again, the same happened in Knysna regarding Eleanore Spies and the damning De Swardt report. To discredit, the issued fallacy is that it isn’t a forensic investigation. That’s deception because Webber Wentzel never claimed it was a forensic investigation. It’s a valuable report that assesses information and provides legal recommendations. It teaches the Public things they didn’t know and/or provides a legal argument for what they suspected. That doesn’t mean it’s perfect but it doesn’t have to be because it’s only Stage One. In Stage Two, those implicated are allowed the opportunity, by the Municipality, to respond. Additionally, if I were implicated, I would’ve, long ago, provided evidence of my innocence. Why haven’t Oudtshoorn’s municipal officials and political representatives done that?
The first report involves allegations against the DA’s chosen Municipal manager, Allen Paulse. Prominent names mentioned are Anton Bredell and James Selfe.
The second is about the illegal involvement of municipal officials in the political disciplinary hearing of then-Mayor Colan Sylvester. Essentially, they ignored their employment contracts with Oudtshoorn to assist the DA Federal Executive whose motivation to get rid of Sylvester was political, not administrative.
I was going to make an easy summary but if the people of Oudtshoorn care about their town more than only Facebook opinions, they’ll read it in full. To outsiders such as myself, it’s another fascinating look into the lie that the DA is the good governance party. Standards are too low in South Africa. If the Western Cape were a province in Western Europe, it would be overthrown.
These reports don’t stand alone. It cannot be ignored that MEC Anton Bredell plotted to overthrow Oudtshoorn. The DA is willing to act criminally to ensure that they hold onto power in the 2021 election.
When the rapist is known to the victim, she’ll be abused again and again until she stops him. When will Oudtshoorn’s citizens get scissors and cut it off?
