Percy Mdala High School Sings Me Shivers
There’s something about a mass of black, African voices that sends joyful shivers through me. It’s not about the lyrics (i’m an ignorant bugger) but something emotional on a primal level, something my whitie ancestors maybe lost as they were building ships to populate foreign lands they had no intention of belonging to.
This isn’t political commentary. Times have changed. Colonialism is dead and i’m a White African, born and bred through tough and love.
This is appreciation for the minute of joy as i heard Knysna’s Percy Mdala High School teens singing in this video at their morning assembly. Most weren’t even making an effort yet still sounded good. Betting if they gave it their all, the whole of Knysna would have a beautiful soundtrack 🙂
Checkout this amazing impromptu performance for a visitor. Best school class ever. These 9th Graders are AWESOME. They pick up the pace so well towards the end – JUBILATION. Well done! This is the type of cool things Knysna should be proud of and get known for!!!
PS: Percy Mdala High School is located in Khayalethu, Knysna, South Africa.
