Knysna Municipal Manager, Lauren Waring, said the activities complimented the first phase of upgrades at the sewage plant and formed part of projects identified to reduce pollution in the lagoon. “An environmental management plan has been submitted to the national Department of Environmental Affairs in Pretoria. Work will start once we received approval from them.”
Activities are expected to start this week (around 21 November) and should take about a week to complete.
“The work will unfortunately increase unpleasant smells in the vicinity, and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience during this time. However, the clearing will in the long term benefit the lagoon and ultimately the people of Knysna.”
