Sedgefield SLOW Wine
Sedgefield’s own “Slow Wine” was released this week and in no time the bulk of the first consignment was snapped up by the locals.
Sedgefield, as Africa’s first Slow Town, and now home to a very successful Slow Food Convivium selected a unique range of dry white and dry red easy to drink, affordable wines as their official house wines to be enjoyed by all.
Deetlefs Wines (Pty) Ltd of Rawsonville at the foot of the Du Toitskloof mountain range produces the Elements of Stonecross range of uncomplicated, easy drinking wines that can be enjoyed on all occasions. A crisp Sauvignon Blanc Semillion and vibrant Cabernet Sauvignon were selected. This sixth generation wine farm has a cellar capacity of 1,8 million litres and is acclaimed as the third oldest wine farm in South Africa.
“We are on a mission in Sedgefield to promote and market the Slow Town brand of the town through various means in an effort to get Sedgefield entrenched on the national tourism landscape as a very unique destination offering a multitude of products, services and activities. This goes hand in hand with our philosophy of creating a quality of life for all and to promote a healthy lifestyle. We already have the geographic uniqueness and it’s now up to us as residents to create a people friendly environment that promotes unique town events and unique products”, says founder Andre Gauche. “ We are now looking into the manufacturing of Slow Town Chocolate, bottling Slow Town Water and establishing A SlowVenture tourist zone along the N2 highway. It’s all exciting stuff and we encourage all our residents to come forward and make things work.”
