Street Cleaners Supporting Knysna in the Sun
It was another super-swelterish, summer day in Knysna when two municipal workers went about their job on the curb in Grey Street.
Few of us notice those at the ‘bottom’ who support the rest of us in Knysna but their wide-brimmed hats attracted my attention and made me wonder who these ladies were.
What people do doesn’t necessarily define who they are. After 7 years on the job, how many know that Patricia Kose is a White Location resident and mother of four with the oldest aged 33 and the youngest, at 15 years, a pupil at Percy Mdala High. She loves gospel music and cooking (samp and chicken is her favourite).
Jolene Jafta is her colleague and friend. Jolene has been with this job for 6 years. She lives in Oupad/Nekkies and is the mother of two kids, aged 7 and 10 (they attend Hornlee Primary). Her favourite meal is beef with salads. She loves action movies with Jean Claude van Damme being her hero:)
Next time you see a Knysna street cleaner this summer, consider giving a warm hello and thanks with an icy cooldrink.
