Knysna Fire Victim Necessities

Mike Hampton Posted on 23rd Jun 2017 by mikehampton6th Jan 2021

There’s a long list of Knysna Fire victim necessities but this is what I most want: 1. Meaningful interaction with rentees who lost everything, the supplying of accommodation or subsidising of accommodation that we cannot afford. 2. For the Municipality to work with private donation groups who have the best ideas e.g. Knysna Families in Need, the possibility of the Lions establishing a permanent disaster centre in Knysna servicing Eden District. 3. Determined investigation and prosecution of municipal employees involved in large scale theft from donation depots. 4. Investigation into … Read the full article…

Knysna’s Amazing Phantom Forest Eco Reserve

Mike Hampton Posted on 7th May 2017 by Mike Hampton7th May 2017

The Phantom Forest Eco Reserve is tucked discreetly within a pristine tract of forest that is rooted to the banks of the Knysna Estuary. It is characterized by a human footprint so reverently subtle, that it compliments rather than detracts from the transcendent 137ha setting within which is sits. This reserve’s eco sense and sensitivity has earned them several accolades: “Africa’s Best Eco Tourism Destination” in 2007”, “World’s Leading Green Resort” in 2008, and a 2009 nomination for “Africa’s Leading Green Hotel” from the World Travel Awards. In 2015 Phantom … Read the full article…

Teniqua Treetops For Bird Lovers

Mike Hampton Posted on 26th Jan 2017 by Mike Hampton26th Jan 2017

Teniqua Treetops in Knysna is a bird-watching paradise, accommodation with a major difference! We looked at building bird-hides before realising that each tree-house is a bird-hide 🙂 Awaken each morning to the sensual dawn chorus. We are visited by over a 100 different varieties of birds. We are blessed with the Knysna Turaco (Knysna Loerie) every day. Teniqua Treetops is located on 26 hectares of pristine indigenous forest; 3 hectares of fynbos and 6 hectares of open grassland. This encourages a range of birds. There is a wild-fig tree in … Read the full article…

Knysna Enjoys Bumper Summer

Mike Hampton Posted on 12th Jan 2013 by Mike Hampton12th Jan 2013

Knysna has once again experienced a super summer season with a general improvement across most sectors when compared to the 2011/2012 season. “The segment of accommodation establishments that we spoke with all report higher occupancy rates than last year,” confirmed Knysna Tourism General Manager Glendyrr Fick. “While many bookings were made via tour operators, most bookings were still made online, with a noticeable amount of bookings made only three to four days prior to arrival.” “Our activity operators also report an increase in business from last season. And we are … Read the full article…
