The ‘Helen Zille Flyer’

Mike Hampton Posted on 23rd Jul 2016 by mikehampton5th Jan 2021

The hoo-ha that the Knysna-Plett Herald and the Democratic Alliance (DA) made about my interaction with Helen Zille was exaggerated. I explain more in ‘An Honest Helen Zille Will Be Outraged at Her Minions’. Next week, I’ll post recordings of the whole meeting (that includes good things too). Now, I share with you the 4-page, ‘Helen Zille flyer’ that I handed to her and others present at that meeting at the Knysna Angling Club. After our short meeting, Helen Zille said she’d read it and, during our conversation, said she’d … Read the full article…

EFF Kicked Out of Gauteng SOPA

Mike Hampton Posted on 22nd Feb 2016 by Mike Hampton1st Nov 2020

The EFF stole the show again today, not only from Premier David Makhura but from me too – ha ha. Wondering why my interview on Corruption Busters was late, i tuned into the radio station to hear the familiar chanting of the EFF…. EFF MPLs were kicked out of the Gauteng state of the province address (SOPA) when they disrupted Premier David Makhura’s speech by shouting “Gupta Must Fall” on Monday. EFF Gauteng legislature members rose in unison as Makhura delivered his speech, shouting “Gupta Must Fall”, in the Saul … Read the full article…

Scandal: DAgang Merger Was Motivated by International Donor

Mike Hampton Posted on 5th Feb 2014 by mikehampton6th Jan 2021

Being morally and politically outraged in two directions, against the ANC and the DA, threatens to tear me (and our country) apart. Just as we’re told that Zuma and Motlanthe, South Africa’s President and Deputy President, took holidays to foreign countries at cost of R2.6million to the taxpayer, it’s revealed that a mysterious foreign donor was promoting DAgang, the merger between the DA and AGANG, Helen Zille and Mamphela Ramphele. It’s long being a concern that foreign forces are influencing our country but that spotlight has always been fixated on … Read the full article…

Laughing at Zille and Ramphele’s Divorce

Mike Hampton Posted on 3rd Feb 2014 by mikehampton6th Jan 2021

There’s more desperation and opportunism than love in the air this election. Not even Zuma’s many marriages could prepare us for the hypocritical hooking up of Malema and Buthelezi. The ladies, Zille and Ramphele, not wanting the men to get all the attention, gave each other a kiss. For a moment, South African politics was as sexually correct as it could be… but there was cyanide of disdain for their supporters on those lips. Helen Zille and Mamphela Ramphele got divorced yesterday, Sunday, February the 2nd. South Africa will never … Read the full article…

AGANG Denied DA Kiss the Day Before it Happened

Mike Hampton Posted on 29th Jan 2014 by mikehampton6th Jan 2021

South Africa, welcome to the DAgang where it’s ok to lie or try to win our lives/votes no matter the cost to democracy. Mamphele Ramphele said, at the start of AGANG: “What would I have accomplished if I had joined the DA or even a newly-established DA. Nothing.” Could it be that AGANG, that was rumoured to be bankrupt and had never solidified a policy, let alone participated in an election, had become a less than regal mess so that Mamphele Ramphele contradicted her statements so as to further … Read the full article…

DA Marries AGANG, Helen Hugs Mamphela

Mike Hampton Posted on 28th Jan 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

AGANG’s Dr. Mamphela Ramphele has accepted becoming the DA’s Presidential Candidate for the 2014 Elections. It will be interesting to discover exactly what compromises were reached. After all, Ramphele had previously turned down the offer and started her own party which, although polls had shown that they would make no significant difference to the political landscape, did gain a lot of, mostly positive, media attention. Here’s the press statement they just released: Statement by Helen Zille: It is with great pleasure and excitement that I can announce that Dr Mamphela … Read the full article…

The Possible Futures of South African Politics?

Mike Hampton Posted on 10th Jul 2013 by mikehampton10th Jul 2013

Stanley Uys is an insightful and exceptional South African journalist who has kindly given me permission to repost his article, Is the DA ‘edging closer’ to the ANC? Considering the recent changes in the highest echelons of our government, the DA acting more like the ANC, COSATU ruffling its feathers and the introduction of AGANG, this makes for an interesting read into what may happen in our near future: South Africa needs a new political alignment to accommodate domestic and global change and reflect the realities of the post-apartheid society. The … Read the full article…

Inspiring Speech by SA’s Newest Political Party

Mike Hampton Posted on 22nd Feb 2013 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Aside from Agang being an awful name for South Africa’s newest political party (at first glance it reads as “a gang” rather than the Sesotho word for “let us build” and reinterpretation as “build South Africa”), i’m fascinated by its leader, 65 year old Mamphela Ramphele. She may not be the joke that COPE became but as a previously non-political person she will face the challenge of growth sans the “right connections”. On the flip-side, there’s the wonderful possibility that she’s entering the political arena for more noble reasons than … Read the full article…
