Are Voters Irrelevant to South African Politics?

Mike Hampton Posted on 20th Dec 2017 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Are voters irrelevant to South African politics? Although my ‘Cyril Ramaphosa and the War for South Africa’ opinion piece on the ANC Conference (and its possible affects) was extremely lengthy, i’ve too many other thoughts buzzing inconveniently. I let some of them them fly here, rather haphazardly… WHITE COMFORTABLENESS & MEDIA FAILING It’s unsurprising how the white population, normally hysterically anti-ANC, has so quickly fitted the possibility of Cyril Ramaphosa becoming President of South Africa in 2019 into something only slightly less than the DA taking over. Unsurprising because the … Read the full article…

Will South Africa’s Downfall Begin in 2 Years?

Mike Hampton Posted on 28th May 2015 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

In 1977, RW Johnson, one of my favourite writers, predicted that there would be a South African regime change in the mid-Nineties. It was a helluva long neck to stick out but he was proven correct when the ANC took over. He’s now predicting that South Africa is heading to a critical point in two years time, or a little thereafter. He bases this on the state of gold sales, increasing debt and increasing trade deficit. Manufacturing has dropped by half, mining is being strangled and farmers are under threat. … Read the full article…

United Front: New Political Party On its Way?

Mike Hampton Posted on 15th Dec 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

NUMSA (National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa) has launched the left-wing organisation called the United Front as a result of its disagreements with COSATU (Congress of South African Trade Union) and South Africa’s ruling party, the ANC. It is not yet known whether it will become a political party. Whether that happens or not, ANC envoys will undoubtedly be scurrying to and fro in an attempt to heal the Tripartite Alliance (ANC, COSATU and South African Communist Party) that has dominated the country’s politics for 20 years. Others will … Read the full article…

The Possible Futures of South African Politics?

Mike Hampton Posted on 10th Jul 2013 by mikehampton10th Jul 2013

Stanley Uys is an insightful and exceptional South African journalist who has kindly given me permission to repost his article,Ā Is the DA ‘edging closer’ to the ANC? Considering the recent changes in the highest echelons of our government, the DA acting more like the ANC, COSATU ruffling its feathers and the introduction of AGANG, this makes for an interesting read into what may happen in our near future: South Africa needs a new political alignment to accommodate domestic and global change and reflect the realities of the post-apartheid society. The … Read the full article…
