Elections: Vryheidsfront Plus Plan for Knysna

Mike Hampton Posted on 28th Jul 2016 by Mike Hampton1st Nov 2020

I’m Jackie du Toit, the Freedom Front Plus (Vryheidsfront Plus) candidate for Knysna Wards 4, 9 & 10. Many of you will know me by my maiden name of Jackie Wissink. I am the proud mother of a 13-year-old girl. I am a proud resident of our beautiful town for 18 years. I’m currently a care-giver. For 12 years, I was a member of the SAPS. I’m your neighbour. I’m a person of faults trying to be a better person. I may be normal 🙂 I’m all those things before … Read the full article…

I'm Changing My Focus… to be Focused

Mike Hampton Posted on 16th May 2016 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

BIG changes afoot but let’s celebrate first… THANK YOU The goal was 7000 Love Knysna Facebook subscribers by year end but, again, your interest has exceeded my expectations 🙂 7000 OF YOU THERE! That’s a lot of interest in our small town of Knysna. However, this will be the last week of this Facebook page and my websites as you know it. For 6 and a half years, my websites have given free advertising whilst my blogging about social, criminal and political matters grew. Working double days has been challenging. … Read the full article…

Stopping Crime Starts With Children

Mike Hampton Posted on 23rd Mar 2016 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

In South Africa, the criminals are winning and the justice system is failing. I believe that crime must be stopped before it starts. Crime prevention shouldn’t be about more guns or more reactionary violence, it should be about helping children not becoming criminals. Consequently, i love this TED Talks video! Please watch it. “When a kid commits a crime, the justice system has a choice: prosecute to the full extent of the law, or take a step back and ask if saddling young people with criminal records is the right … Read the full article…

Your Enormous Feedback on Knysna & South Africa as Home

Mike Hampton Posted on 21st May 2015 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Your response, since yesterday, has been impressive, so far 6300 views on Love Knysna’s Facebook and News24, where i respectively used ‘Should Families Move to Knysna?’ and ‘Should Overseas Families Move to South Africa?” as the questions. Click those links to view all the many comments, or to make your own if you haven’t already. This wasn’t meant to be a blog but my Facebook comment became so long that i thought it best to re-post it here as well as quote from some of you. “I am happy in … Read the full article…

Should Families Move to Knysna?

Mike Hampton Posted on 20th May 2015 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Considering emigrating? Should you move to South Africa? Do South Africans want to live in their own country or would they move if they could? Let’s ask the town of Knysna… Question #1: If you live in Knysna and were given a million rand, would you move to another town, city or country? Question #2: After weighing up lifestyle and crime, would you encourage someone with children in Europe to move to South Africa? I raise these hypothetical questions because, over the years, a number of people have contacted me … Read the full article…

Friday 13 Began Dark Valentine’s Weekend For Knysna

Mike Hampton Posted on 16th Feb 2015 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

A murder of a man, the kidnapping and murder of a child, a husband and wife shot multiple times, and a bad vehicle accident – Friday the 13th was the beginning of a dark Valentine’s weekend for the tourist municipality of Knysna (pop. 68 000). Details are thin but this is what happened to the best of my knowledge: 11-year-old, Zama Mani was reported missing by his mother on Friday. On Sunday, his body was discovered after his community apprehended a suspect who led the police to it near the … Read the full article…

Western Cape Compared to South Africa

Mike Hampton Posted on 30th Dec 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

How does life in the Western Cape compare to the rest of South Africa? A new report by the SA Institute for Race Relations places us (78/100) a distant second to Gauteng (92/100). We were, together with the Eastern Cape, last with regards social issues such as malnutrition levels and matric pass rates. I expect our Eden District to be a sad culprit. The Western Cape leads in service delivery but that only makes sense if the large centres are being looked after better than our small towns. Then again, … Read the full article…

Knysna 2014 Crime Statistic Review

Mike Hampton Posted on 20th Sep 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Note that the crime year of 2013/2014 will hereafter be referred to as 2014. There were 6575 crimes in Knysna in 2014, the highest in 10 years, up 4.6% since last year and 26.5% higher than it was 5 years ago. The good news is that the 12 murders are 4 less than the previous year and substantially lower than the 26 in 2012. However, attempted murders shows the reverse as it’s at 17 compared to the 8 in 2012. That violence, likely fueled by tik, has worsened is most … Read the full article…
