Vehicle Testing Station Costs Ratepayer R2million So Far

Mike Hampton Posted on 2nd Sep 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

A whistleblower reported irregularities at the Knysna Vehicle Testing Station in January 2013. The station was closed in February 2013. 4 staff were placed under investigation, including the manager. They have been paid their salaries since their suspension a year ago. Lauren Waring, Knysna’s Municipal Manager, originally lied, saying that the vehicle testing station was temporarily closed to review and upgrade its systems. ENS was appointed as an outside company to investigate as Municipal Manager Lauren Waring claimed that Knysna Municipality does not have the expertise required. ENS is currently … Read the full article…

Is Our Future Dead or Alive?

Mike Hampton Posted on 19th Aug 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

I do what i do to fight our devolution in Knysna and our membership of of the human race… but with so few in the fight and with most treating our common struggles like movies (discussed, criticised but never part of), i sometimes despair. Sure, i’ll post a happy picture after this on my Facebook and try defy with happy Knysna thoughts but that doesn’t alter that this is one of those depressing mornings where i ask myself razorblade questions sharper than band-aids. Knysna is bankrupt… and will remain so … Read the full article…

Racism and Feminism as an Excuse (Part 2)

Mike Hampton Posted on 14th Jul 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Then there’s the feminism aspect that totally ignored that i’d begun my blog about the overweight officer with, “I don’t believe in being cruel regards weight. For that reason, i’ve cut off the face of the lady involved here. People should live their lives the way they want to.” Enforcement officers were the exception. I take offence when being falsely accused or one of my posts is hijacked for ulterior motives (whether the commentators are aware of their bias or not). Is a woman still a feminist if she uses … Read the full article…

Knysna Crime Comments After Terence Bridgett's Violent Attack

Mike Hampton Posted on 24th Jun 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

“These are not the easiest of times, here at the southernmost tip of Africa. Socio-politically and economically there is much for us to be frustrated, angry and despondent about. As an entertainer, my job is to disperse those clouds with light, love and hopefully some laughter… ” – Terence Bridgett Back in March of this year, i published a controversial article about crime statistics on the Garden Route, comparing Knysna, George and Plettenberg Bay to one another. The most important observation was that Knysna isn’t the idyllic tourist getaway that … Read the full article…

Farm Attack in Knysna

Mike Hampton Posted on 4th Mar 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

According to the KPH, on Saturday evening, March 1, the Fernbank farm in Karatara was robbed by 4 black men. A 5th is believed to have been the getaway driver in a vehicle with an Eastern Cape registration number. The police later caught the vehicle on the N2 and captured 2 of the suspects. Should You Stay or Should You Go?

Mike Hampton Posted on 8th Feb 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

I don’t have the time or the money to cope with working full-time for free anymore. I can’t sort the financial aspect but i can sort time by choosing what to focus on. Hopefully i can return to all at a later date but the consequence on my Love Knysna Facebook is that the jokes and business advertising will vanish but the important issues affecting our lives will remain. Many of you are on that Facebook. Some of you will object. In particular, DA people have already as they can’t … Read the full article…

Blood is Not a Colour in a Rainbow

Mike Hampton Posted on 10th Aug 2013 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Knysna is not alone. Crime is reddening South Africa. Lately there’s been a fist in my tummy, gripping my innards when i think of the future of our country. Living with fear is not good living. Die Son (The Daily Sun) may be a tabloid but their sensationalism contains truths that most media don’t bother to print anymore (because the type of crimes have become so regular so as to no longer ‘entertain’ desensitized South Africans). A recent issue had R1-million unaccounted for in a Northern Cape Primary School with … Read the full article…

Mike Hampton Posted on 5th Aug 2013 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Thanks to Mike Wood for pointing out this video on racial profiling to me. It’s obviously a major part of our life in Knysna and begs a full article but, for now, i’m swamped so will leave you to ponder your own thoughts regards crime  and racism…
