Requiem for Love & Sex

Mike Hampton Posted on 7th Apr 2018 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020
requiem for love and sex

Tonight, I’ll visit Death. For days I’ve sensed the arrival of this juncture but only realised the precise time a few minutes ago. Knew it as I climbed the last flight of stairs, ten steps in all – a countdown i counted… ten, nine… and then so soon- three, two, one- -to where I’m sliding my guilty key into the iron gate’s lock. The rooftop is my special place. I will miss my stony friend. A glitter of stars ensure that I know which way to fall. The wind tugs … Read the full article…

Granny Got Hurt

Mike Hampton Posted on 6th Apr 2018 by mikehampton11th Apr 2018

When you were hurt, I didn’t recognise you because you smile was hiding and your hospital hair was grey When you were hurt, I flashed into our past, sun-shiny moments of beaches and pie that only now burn in my heart When you were hurt, I realised that I’d been uncaring, too drowned in my childhood self to see your adult pain When you were hurt, I realised that I’d failed you… and wondered if you knew that but were too kind to tell me? My father and I have a good relationship. He and my mom were married 44 years and he carried the burden of looking after my … Read the full article…

Death, Life and You…

Mike Hampton Posted on 22nd Dec 2013 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Feeling melancholic and didn’t know where to put this…so i put it here… In the swig of a beer and beyond the lagoon-that-is-really-an-estuary, further than the incoming tide, grey (white-flushed), 4-foot waves, and below a cold orgasm of sun, the world i’ve never experienced was witnessed by me without me seeing the world i knew, the world behind me. Despite being directionless, i knew that i’d be robbed of the sight of certain people if i turned around because Knysna had recently lost 4 little girls in 2 incidents off … Read the full article…
