South African Education Sucks!

Mike Hampton Posted on 6th Jan 2017 by Public Contributor1st Nov 2020

HARSH REALITY: “SA has one of the world’s worst education systems: Why it is Bottom of the Class,” is the headline in the respected Economist magazine. It went on to say that, “In a league table of education systems drawn up in 2015 by the OECD club of mainly rich countries‚ SA ranks 75th out of 76.” Consider the following: “A shocking 27% of pupils who have attended school for six years cannot read‚ compared with 4% in Tanzania and 19% in Zimbabwe. Were South Africa’s Matric 2016 Results Faked?

Mike Hampton Posted on 5th Jan 2017 by Public Contributor1st Nov 2020

Were South Africa’s Matric 2016 results faked by Umalusi (Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training)? 28 out of 58 subjects had their marks adjusted upwards! Is education likely to improve atop growing unemployment, civil restlessness and community breakdown? Matric Results 2016 are in! 828 020 full-time and part-time learners participated in the National Senior Certificate exams. Dr Rufus Poliah, the Chief Director at Department of Basic Education, stated that inroads had been made towards inclusivity the past two decades. Now the goal must be to ensure quality learning that educates holistically, creating life-long learners and fulfilling a vision towards 2030. Angie Motshekga, the Minister of Basic Education, announced that the pass rate, without progressed learners, was 76.2%. With progressed learners, it was 72%. Both an increase on last … Read the full article…

Matric Results an Indicator of Primary Schooling Crisis

Mike Hampton Posted on 4th Jan 2017 by Public Contributor1st Nov 2020

Before the mayhem of Matric results and opinions, i want you to read this excellent press release by the organisation called Equal Education. If you care about education, get informed. I thoroughly agree with them that poor Matric results are the result of primary schooling crisis. If you don’t save a child early, the odds are they will become a failed teenager and failed adult. PRIMARY SCHOOLING CRISIS Excessive pressure is brought to bear on learners, teachers, principals, and education bureaucrats for the sake of the annual shindig that is … Read the full article…
