HARSH REALITY: “SA has one of the world’s worst education systems: Why it is Bottom of the Class,” is the headline in the respected Economist magazine. Were South Africa’s Matric 2016 results faked by Umalusi (Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training)? 28 out of 58 subjects had their marks adjusted upwards! Is education likely to improve atop growing unemployment, civil restlessness and community breakdown? Matric Results 2016: 76.2% Pass Rate
Matric Results 2016 are in! 828 020 full-time and part-time learners participated in the National Senior Certificate exams. Dr Rufus Poliah, the Chief Director at Department of Basic Education, stated that inroads had been made towards inclusivity the past two decades. Now the goal must be to ensure quality learning that educates holistically, creating life-long learners and fulfilling a vision towards 2030.
