DA misuses millions on illegal tourism companies

Mike Hampton Posted on 26th Sep 2018 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020
DA corruption Alan Winde Helen Zille

Private tourism companies in the Western Cape are being illegally funded from Public funds. This is about DA corruption that places an enormous question mark over MEC Tourism Alan Winde, the DA’s Western Cape Premier candidate. This story began in Knysna but impacts on the economic health of the province and the national perception of the DA. It will likely grow to impact the 2019 elections. I have laid complaint with the Office of the President and the Western Cape Hawks. The former has acknowledged my complaint and the latter … Read the full article…

Questions for Knysna’s politicians

Mike Hampton Posted on 9th Mar 2015 by mikehampton26th Jan 2021

Knysna is at a crossroads. I’m not being melodramatic when I say that time is running out to decide which way we’re going. It’s quite possible that Knysna ratepayers and taxpayers will lose millions in court cases over the next year as I lay charge after charge against our naughty politicians and municipal staff. I don’t want to but unless they start talking and fixing, I’m prepared to stop all that I’m doing and focus only on that. It may be a necessity considering the legal actions they’re serving me … Read the full article…

Scary Snapshot of Knysna Tourism's Finances

Mike Hampton Posted on 10th Jul 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

In the photo above, you will find a 6-month snap-shop of Tourism’s finances in 2013. Click on it for a larger view. The Finance Committee included Greg Vogt (Chairman of the Board), Glendyrr Fick (KT Office Manager), Grant Easton (Director of Finance for Knysna Municiplaity), Richard Dawson (DA), Basil Michaelides (Auditor), Ruth Casti (accountant) and Randi-Lue Pluim (financial director). R20 000 is listed monthly under “New Monthly Unforseen Expenses”. Could those be the R20 000 payments to Greg Vogt? If so, how long was he receiving them? If not, then … Read the full article…

Tourism Truth #5: Winde & Myers Turn Their Backs on Knysna

Mike Hampton Posted on 18th Jun 2014 by mikehampton20th Nov 2020

Early this year, I shared this letter with you. I repeat it because it fits the chronology of this blog series and provides valuable substantiation and information. Considering that they have all failed to provide the answers they promised and that Peter Myers (now the Chairman of the Knysna DA Constituency) is actively altering the truth, makes it very important for you to absorb this: Dear Alan Winde and Peter Meyers I have exhaustively tried to get answers and being repeatedly blocked for almost 3 years by the DA, Knysna … Read the full article…

Protecting Their Tourism Arses Means Screwing You

Mike Hampton Posted on 30th Oct 2013 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

The Knysna Tourism Board, the Knysna Municipality and DA politicians have deliberately withheld information from Knysna regarding the financial fiasco at Knysna Tourism. Reading the following rules of conduct that they were suppose to uphold as members of the Tourism Board and Financial Committee, it would be logical to assume that they are protecting their arses instead of serving you, the people of Knysna. Knysna Tourism Corporate Governance code of practice and conduct states: “The Board is responsible for the appointment of the CEO”, “must ensure that all decisions on … Read the full article…

The disturbing situation at Knysna Tourism

Mike Hampton Posted on 23rd Oct 2013 by mikehampton16th Jan 2021
Greg Vogt

Justice is slow…and even slower now that the Knysna Municipality and Knysna Tourism have hindered the Public Protector’s efforts to gain transparency. In particular, 2 names should be singled out – Greg Vogt (who has essentially acted as Tourism CEO which is outside his role as Tourism Board Chairperson) and Lauren Waring (our infamous Municipal Manager). The Public Protector (PP) process will continue and if they fail to be helpful in the next round they will be subpoenaed but the big question is IF THEY HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE, THEN … Read the full article…

1. Hear No Evil, See No Evil…

Mike Hampton Posted on 11th Sep 2013 by mikehampton27th Jan 2021

The Knysna Municipality’s and Democratic Alliance’s appalling disrespect for the public reared its ugly tail again. This is no microcosm that a better person can deal politely with. No sane person should. Regards the ISDF (Integrated Strategic Development Framework), Mayor Georlene Wolmarans stated that this determines Knysna’s future for the next “20 to 30 years”. Although Knysna’s present tense has been so utterly disregarded so as to be scary, it’s nothing compared to a dark future where Knysna’s citizens have no control, or say, over their lives. Considering that the … Read the full article…

Knysna Enjoys Bumper Summer

Mike Hampton Posted on 12th Jan 2013 by Mike Hampton12th Jan 2013

Knysna has once again experienced a super summer season with a general improvement across most sectors when compared to the 2011/2012 season. “The segment of accommodation establishments that we spoke with all report higher occupancy rates than last year,” confirmed Knysna Tourism General Manager Glendyrr Fick. “While many bookings were made via tour operators, most bookings were still made online, with a noticeable amount of bookings made only three to four days prior to arrival.” “Our activity operators also report an increase in business from last season. And we are … Read the full article…
