This family is camping in Salt River after Deputy Mayor Peter Myers said at the meeting on July 3 that it isn’t the responsibility to provide shelter to the victims of the Knysna Fire. They’re a family who knows how to live rough, having been without electricity and water for one and a half years. But having no roof and the security of walls, just a small broken tent, is severely challenging. They’ve now had to let their children live with a lady they know from a church. The mom and her boyfriend are camping. But so there’s some positive in this story, a member of the public at that meeting dropped off a good tent for them the following day. Community spirit, again, rules.
