Knysna Committee Adopts Draft for Knysna’s Future

Mike Hampton Posted on 7th Mar 2016 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

A broad overview of the ISDF, the plan for Knysna’s future, was presented to Knysna Municipality’s Section 80 Planning Committee on February 24 2016 by Laurie Barwell, a likeable gentleman from Knysna Creative Heads. “An Integrated Strategic Development Framework (ISDF) is a long-term overarching document that sets out our community’s vision and aspirations for the future. It identifies how we will get from where we are to where we want to be,” said Barwell. “It’s something that no other municipality in the country has attempted. It’s a groundbreaking report.” We … Read the full article…

ISDF Update: Stop Messing With Our Money!

Mike Hampton Posted on 29th Jan 2016 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

The Knysna Council meeting on Thursday, January 28, finally acknowledged the death of municipal employee, Rudolf Kapp, and the injuries of traffic officers, Anthony Bans and Ernest Nqoko a.k.a. Smiley. In her opening speech, Mayor Georlene Wolmarans mentioned her disapproval of discrimination but that fell on my hollow ears in view of the DA’s election campaign timing of the anti-racism topic (i will give that a blog on its own). When questioned, she admitted that during the recent holiday season there’d been regular water pipe bursts on the East Head. … Read the full article…

Opinion: Botched ISDF Whitewash Proves DA’s Incompetence

Mike Hampton Posted on 18th Feb 2015 by mikehampton18th Feb 2015

Tackling tough issues dead-on makes me controversial and fuels critics who believe i should be more respectful (respect isn’t a gift, it’s earned) and that there are better ways to do things (even though they don’t do so themselves). Susan Campbell, however, with her passion for environmental law and her love of Knysna, is respected in most corners of thinking Knysna, even respected by a number of our politicians. On the rare moments when she contributes to this blog or the local newspapers, i’m greatly appreciative that another voice is … Read the full article…

ISDF: Worst Knysna DA Whitewash So Far

Mike Hampton Posted on 18th Feb 2015 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT TO YOUR LIFE IN KNYSNA THAN THIS! This is how to try screw over everyone in Knysna at once. MEC Alan Winde, MEC Anton Bredell and Mayor Georlene Wolmarans – SHAME ON YOU. The latest episode, which will appear on the agenda of the Knysna Mayoral Committee on Thursday this week, is ultimate proof that the DA favours big business over any of us. Nothing is more important than the ISDF (Integrated Strategic Development Framework). All decisions made for Knysna (roads, human settlements) will have to … Read the full article…

Knysna’s Economic Growth Officially Smaller

Mike Hampton Posted on 8th Oct 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

“We are very cash-strapped at the moment which is why we need private partners.” – Ilse van Schalwyk (Knysna Manager for Economic Development) Don’t get bored. The next two paragraphs translate into ‘HOW TO FIX KNYSNA’S ECONOMY’. At the Section 80 Governance meeting held in Knysna’s Council Chambers yesterday, Ilse van Schalkwyk, the Manager of Economic Development, delivered a presentation in preparation for the submission of the revised Economic Development Strategy (EDS) which falls under the ISDF (Integrated Strategic Development Framework). The goal of the EDS is to “collectively create … Read the full article…
