The DA’s wasted desalination plant

Mike Hampton Posted on 6th Sep 2018 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020
Sedgefield Desalination plant wasted by Democratic Alliance

The Sedgefield desalination plant next to Myoli Beach was built for R16-million in December 2009. Although it was a response to a drought, and that the population has doubled since then, it has never supplied water to the Public. The stated reason for this is that the price of its water will be too high. However, to keep it running and undertake repairs finds the Knysna Municipality spending millions of rands annually. One must ask who is scoring? The single-pass, reverse osmosis plant was commissioned under the ANC government but … Read the full article…

The Hop, The Skip & The Jump (by MEC Anton Bredell)

Mike Hampton Posted on 2nd Dec 2015 by mikehampton5th Jan 2021
Anton Bredell

Although Anton Bredell (MEC Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning) was asked to respond directly regards the Knysna ISDF tender scandal, he had his spokesperson, James-Brent Styan, reply. In my opinion, the result clearly hops over leadership, skips Bredell’s clear involvement and jumps the buck onto Knysna Municipality who will not respond (note that they have banned communication with me for years – Helen Zille is well aware). More information has become available, showing that Bredell was seemingly complicit in favouring property developers in several other towns. I will … Read the full article…

Update: Knysna ISDF Investigation

Mike Hampton Posted on 16th Sep 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

By now you know that the ISDF (Integrated Strategic Development Framework) is meant to become the ultimate 30-year plan for Knysna and that many of us have claimed that the planning tender, the first tender, was illegally awarded to property developers, the people with the most conflict of interest. R2million of taxpayers’ cash later, Treasury was finally ‘called’ to investigate. MEC Anton Bredell’s Ministry of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning is in charge of the investigation which was suppose to be complete by September 12.  This has been … Read the full article…

Eden District’s Municipal Managers Earning R9million Annually

Mike Hampton Posted on 10th Sep 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

This week, Die Burger shocked its readers with an article claiming that the Municipal Managers of the Western Cape were being overpaid by millions of rands. The blogosphere was soon quoting it and attention in Knysna and Plettenberg Bay was avid and comments explosive. Bitou’s Allen Paulse topped the local red list by earning R564 555 p/a more than is permitted. Knysna’s Lauren Waring was R203 633 over the top. The situation cooled slightly when James-Brent Styan, the Spokesperson for Anton Bredell, the MEC for Local Government in the Western … Read the full article…
