ISDF Update: Stop Messing With Our Money!

Mike Hampton Posted on 29th Jan 2016 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

The Knysna Council meeting on Thursday, January 28, finally acknowledged the death of municipal employee, Rudolf Kapp, and the injuries of traffic officers, Anthony Bans and Ernest Nqoko a.k.a. Smiley. In her opening speech, Mayor Georlene Wolmarans mentioned her disapproval of discrimination but that fell on my hollow ears in view of the DA’s election campaign timing of the anti-racism topic (i will give that a blog on its own). When questioned, she admitted that during the recent holiday season there’d been regular water pipe bursts on the East Head. … Read the full article…

Opinion: Botched ISDF Whitewash Proves DA’s Incompetence

Mike Hampton Posted on 18th Feb 2015 by mikehampton18th Feb 2015

Tackling tough issues dead-on makes me controversial and fuels critics who believe i should be more respectful (respect isn’t a gift, it’s earned) and that there are better ways to do things (even though they don’t do so themselves). Susan Campbell, however, with her passion for environmental law and her love of Knysna, is respected in most corners of thinking Knysna, even respected by a number of our politicians. On the rare moments when she contributes to this blog or the local newspapers, i’m greatly appreciative that another voice is … Read the full article…

ISDF: Worst Knysna DA Whitewash So Far

Mike Hampton Posted on 18th Feb 2015 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT TO YOUR LIFE IN KNYSNA THAN THIS! This is how to try screw over everyone in Knysna at once. MEC Alan Winde, MEC Anton Bredell and Mayor Georlene Wolmarans – SHAME ON YOU. The latest episode, which will appear on the agenda of the Knysna Mayoral Committee on Thursday this week, is ultimate proof that the DA favours big business over any of us. Nothing is more important than the ISDF (Integrated Strategic Development Framework). All decisions made for Knysna (roads, human settlements) will have to … Read the full article…

Mayor Drops Bomb on Knysna ISDF

Mike Hampton Posted on 6th Aug 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Knysna’s Mayor Georlene Wolmarans dropped a bombshell in Council Chambers during a Governance & Economic meeting yesterday, August 6. She surprised her fellow councillors with the announcement that she had requested provincial government and Treasury to investigate the Knysna ISDF tender that was awarded to the Knysna Creative Heads Consortium. For the many of us who have fought and objected against our future been decided by property developers, it’s the first sign of relief in two years of controversy. For those of you who’ve just arrived, let’s play catch-up as … Read the full article…

ISDF Report #4: Trust & Distrust, Winners & Losers

Mike Hampton Posted on 2nd Feb 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Is mutual trust and respect being developed between stakeholders Status: Amber Findings: Early indications of disregard for some views. Impartial Report: “The Knysna ISDF community engagement status quo report released on the 4th of November contains a diversity of views and ideas which were recorded indicating that acceptance of diversity in opinions, needs and aspirations and sense of togetherness is being developed [BUT] the fraction between the municipality and civil environmental groups mentioned earlier in this report and discussed in criterion 5.1.8 is a stumbling block to mutual trust developing … Read the full article…

ISDF Report #2: Is Conflict Being Resolved?

Mike Hampton Posted on 30th Jan 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

The report mimics a robot telling us to go, be careful or stop i.e. each sector is accorded a Green, Amber or Red rating. Is conflict being resolved? Status: Red Findings: Conflicts are left to fester. Impartial report: A dispute emerged at the very beginning of the process between The Knysna Municipality and civil environmental groups in the area which has resulted in the development of polarisation between the two groups. Even though this conflict is not about how the process is being undertaken or implemented per se, it is … Read the full article…
