Mosque Wins Right To Build In Knysna

Knysna is to build its first Mosque. According to their Facebook page, the “Knysna Municipality is absolutely elated at this morning’s court ruling”. The Cape High Court upheld the DA-led Council’s May 2015 decision to give the Mosque a green light. Judge Daniel Dlodlo dismissed the case with costs. The plaintiffs are rumoured to have spent approximately R500,000 so far. Although the plaintiffs seemed to have well-founded technical arguments regarding by-laws, it’s possible that some used that mask to hide prejudice. Knysna Muslim Council Raises R1.1million…and Still Counting

Since efforts began three months ago to raise funds to purchase property for Knysna’s first mosque, a staggering R1,165,970.29 was raised unto 22 June, the Knysna Muslim Council (KMC) reported this week. According to KMC chairperson, Omar Essa, just over R1m of these funds were raised since their appeal went national appeal in April. “The balance was raised before April. The Knysna Muslim Council (KMC) has reached its first goal of raising R600 000 to buy a property in Knysna with the intention of providing a mosque for our town’s Muslim community.
