Knysna Knews: Whose behind it? (Part 1)

Mike Hampton Posted on 22nd Feb 2016 by mikehampton25th Jan 2021

Knysna Knews is most known for being an anonymously run Facebook page that bashes me, an activist who’s been trying to bring justice to a number of questionable situations involving the Democratic Alliance in Knysna. These include a tender deciding the future of our town being given to a property developer, and the illegal use of public funds being used to pay the debt of Knysna Tourism. Since my submission of allegations of maladministration and corruption to Parliament earlier this month, Knysna Knews and some of its subscribers have increased … Read the full article…

Municipality Wants Residents to Register Their Water Tanks

Mike Hampton Posted on 27th Oct 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Residents with alternative water sources like rain water tanks and spikes or boreholes are urged to register these on the municipality’s database. “We thank residents for their efforts in saving and using water from alternative sources,” said Councillor Louise Hart, chairperson for the Planning, Infrastructure and Development Committee. “While many residents mainly use these alternative sources to water the garden and wash their cars, some residents have taken it a step further, connecting these sources to their household supply,” Hart said. “This water is mainly used in washing machines, dishwashers … Read the full article…

Knysna Water Restrictions Still in Place

Mike Hampton Posted on 21st Aug 2014 by mikehampton21st Aug 2014

Water restrictions are still in place but have obviously being ignored by residents this year. I see abusers on an almost daily basis. A big problem has been that the Knysna Municipality hasn’t been enforcing it. They are going to start doing that now as our rivers are low and we could be heading for problems. The Knysna Municipality urges residents and businesses to consciously save water, especially now that we are heading for summer. The 2014 winter season has been a dry one resulting in slower river flow. Chairperson … Read the full article…

Sewage, Water, Developers & Tourism

Mike Hampton Posted on 27th May 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Feedback: Mayoral Meeting May 22 2014 Owing to the notable absence of the distribution of information from Knysna Municipality to the public, i attended the Mayoral meeting last Tuesday. Again, contrary to normal procedure, i wasn’t given the minutes of the meeting (despite requesting such) but, at some point, they were referenced on a big screen. These proceedings are mostly boring (for a long while, i was the only member of the public there and there were zero reporters in sight) but can sometimes offer insight into what is going … Read the full article…

The DA & ANC's Financial Rape of Knysna's Taxpayers

Mike Hampton Posted on 26th Feb 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

The reckless disregard of politicians for the public’s will continues in Knysna. Yet again, the DA, ANC and COPE have unanimously agreed to give themselves a pay increase. This time it’s 5%. You may not think that’s a lot but it definitely is when you consider the state of Knysna and the fact that we don’t have the money. Let me repeat that – WE DON’T HAVE THE MONEY! It’s financial rape.
