Volunteer: Have Fun Whilst Helping Knysna’s Kids

Mike Hampton Posted on 1st May 2016 by mikehampton1st May 2016

“You will never stand taller than when you kneel to help a child,” is a grand quote of sacrifice and community that we should all live by. However, when you become a volunteer at Love Knysna Projects, your only goal in kneeling is so that you can see children smile… and they can see you do the same. Volunteering has never been easier. We don’t expect money donations, just your your time and your positive attitude. The goal is to have fun whilst taking children on excursions to fun places … Read the full article…

Knysna’s Kids Meet Knysna’s Elephants

Mike Hampton Posted on 9th Nov 2015 by mikehampton9th Nov 2015

53 children and Love Knysna Project’s volunteers enjoyed an animal encounter and breakfast at Knysna Elephant Park (KEP) this Sunday past. For the children, it was an experience to be remembered. After watching an educational video that included how to safely interact with these beautiful animals, they received complimentary buckets of fruit to feed to the elephants. Wonder and giggles overcame hesitancy as hairy trunks plucked the food from their open palms. Benjy, a 7-year old from Judah Square whose known for his shyness, lit up as he became the … Read the full article…

Help Us Help Knysna’s Children

Mike Hampton Posted on 7th Nov 2015 by mikehampton7th Nov 2015

HELP US HELP KNYSNA’S CHILDREN… and have fun whilst doing so. Knysna is the prettiest town in South Africa but suffers from a great divide between the rich and the poor. Love Knysna Projects is a group of volunteers (mostly moms and dads) building a bridge, between those two worlds, for children. Children from disadvantaged backgrounds rarely get to experience the joys of their own town. When you ask them where they stay, some don’t answer with “Knysna”. Instead, they mention the suburb they come from or say “township, showing … Read the full article…

Join Us: Have Fun Whilst Helping Knysna’s Kids

Mike Hampton Posted on 13th Oct 2015 by mikehampton13th Oct 2015

Love Knysna Projects is a group of local volunteers who take kids for experiences that make their world bigger. We want to ensure that they know that Knysna is their home and not, as too many answer, the road where they live or “the township”. As ours is a tourist based economy, sharing knowledge will help create ambassadors for our town. Photos of the trips are placed on Facebook and websites with the parallel purpose of advertising our beautiful area of the world. As important is multi-cultural integration. Helpers and … Read the full article…

Sunny Hike on Leisure Isle

Mike Hampton Posted on 31st Mar 2015 by mikehampton31st Mar 2015

It had been 22 months since we’d taken kids to Leisure Isle in Knysna so it was high time we returned to its magnificent Bollard Bay Beach and Kingfisher Creek. There were 18 kids and 8 of us adults. As the tide was just turning, we still had time to take the short cut to Kingfisher’s Creek (the beach on the other side that faces Thesen Islands), around the bend via the sandy shore and beautiful, beachfront houses. Sea lettuce and moss accompanied our footsteps much of the way. From … Read the full article…

Blue Hills Farm Kids' Trip

Mike Hampton Posted on 3rd Dec 2014 by mikehampton3rd Dec 2014

We ended the year with a lovely trip to Blue Hills Farm which lies 25km from Knysna and 5km before Plettenberg Bay. It never fails to thrill me that there are hidden gems such as this dotted all over the Garden Route. Blue Hills is primarily a supplier of colourful, screeching, talkative and beautiful parrots – there are so many of them! Peacocks thrill with displays and a lovely playground calls out to children, “Come play!” There are pigs, llama and emu. Even a horse and, to the delight of … Read the full article…
