Our South African Democracy? Don’t be fooled!

Mike Hampton Posted on 8th Jan 2020 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020
Corruption South Africa - Mail Guardian Khadija Patel Daily Maverick Branko Brkic 2

Our democracy? Don’t be fooled! There’s no such thing as liberalism, communism or socialism in South Africa. There’s only capitalism and politicians with different marketing strategies aimed at making themselves into better capitalists. Democracy has been capitalised! Those selfish politicians exist because big business sponsors their parties. Municipal underlings aren’t exempt from condemnation if they’re obedient to the salary the party gives them instead of obedient to representing us. They exist because millions of dumb and lazy citizens want to be gang members so that they can hate almost everyone … Read the full article…

Don’t Forget Mambush & Marikana Massacre

Mike Hampton Posted on 24th May 2015 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

For two months, Jacob Zuma has withheld Judge Farlam’s report into the Marikana Massacre. Don’t forget the 34 who die! Don’t forget Mambush a.k.a. Mgcineni Noki, the man in the green blanket who tried to negotiate but was instead shot 14 times. Read ‘The Savage Truth Behind the Marikana Massacre’ on the Mail & Guardian website where reporter Nick Davies uncovers the story of “the man in the green blanket”, who died trying to broker peace, and reveals the complicity of the powers that be…

We Don’t Need You, Jacob Zuma! We Need a President!

Mike Hampton Posted on 14th Feb 2015 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

How did Jacob Zuma react to the chaos in Parliament during SONA 2015? Was he ashamed? Embarrassed? Mortified? Disappointed? Angry? At least one photographer, David Harrison from the Mail & Guardian, thought to catch his reaction whilst others focused on the EFF being thrown out. Zuma laughed! Zuma reminded me of a toddler with a toy. Yes, ‘Happy Birthday’, Mr President’… but do you know that South Africa isn’t Marilyn Monroe? Will you return to reality now? To our country that is in trouble, under fire by a sinking currency, … Read the full article…

Where did Jacob Zuma Get the R19.5million From?

Mike Hampton Posted on 6th Jun 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

The Mail & Guardian has hit another nail on the head regards the Nkandla (ZumaGate) scandal. It’s highly ironic that the hundreds of millions spent on Jacob Zuma’s crib (and the billion on the road to it) may have less impact than the unexplained R19.5million spent on 3 of the houses on the property. Plus there’s 2 more houses value still to be uncovered. President Jacob Zuma could not afford the five houses he had built at his homestead since 2009 – three of which cost R19.5‑million – an amaBhungane … Read the full article…

Who Got an A or F in Government in 2013?

Mike Hampton Posted on 22nd Feb 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

This is a summary of the Mail & Guardian’s Cabinet Report Card which not only sums up the performance of South Africa’s leaders in 2013 but teaches us a lot about their ability and intentions. The original article, ‘On your marks, get set … FAIL’ was long so i worried that the average reader would ignore this important read but political followers are encouraged to follow the link above and give the authors the credit they deserve for a job well done. Note that opinions are sometimes mine and not … Read the full article…

3.0: What is the Future of the Internet?

Mike Hampton Posted on 23rd Jun 2012 by mikehampton23rd Jun 2012

I’ve always enjoyed the Mail & Guardian and that extends to their more recent Thought Leader where the public can submit articles. Today’s pleasure was Lee-Roy Chetty’s Imagining Web 3.0: The advanced development of the internet and the cornucopia of information it provides has only been in existence for just over 18 years. The internet at its current growth rate and development stands to be the greatest machine ever built in the history of humanity. This machine also happens to be the most reliable machine human beings have ever constructed. … Read the full article…
