Zuma Loses Major Constitutional Court Case

Mike Hampton Posted on 29th Dec 2017 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Today, the Constitutional Court of South Africa ruled that the National Assembly of Parliament had failed its Constitutional obligation to hold President Jacob Zuma (ANC) accountable. For better or worse, the judgement is a legal landmark. SEPARATION OF POWERS It was a majority judgement meaning that not all judges agreed. Although the Public will simplify this into another Zuma topic, the far-reaching core is the lessened separation of powers between the Judiciary and the Legislature. Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng and Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo believed that the judiciary had … Read the full article…

Must Read: Heartfelt Letter from Kathrada to Zuma

Mike Hampton Posted on 3rd Apr 2016 by Mike Hampton1st Nov 2020

Ahmed Mohamed Kathrada is an ex-South African politician, former anti-apartheid activist and former political prisoner, along with Nelson Mandela, on Robben Island and at Pollsmoor. He received the Isitwalandwe Award (the ANC’s most prestigious award). His letter to President Jacob Zuma is both sincere and necessary. “Dear Comrade President Zuma I have agonised for a while before writing this letter to you. I am just a rank-and-file member of my ANC Branch. However, even before the ANC opened its membership to non-Africans in the 1969. I was involved in the activities … Read the full article…

Zuma Must Pay Back the Money – ConCourt

Mike Hampton Posted on 31st Mar 2016 by Mike Hampton1st Nov 2020

The Constitutional Court has given President Jacob Zuma just over three months to pay back the money for some of the upgrades to his Nkandla homestead. “The National Treasury must determine the reasonable costs of those measures implemented by the department of public works at the president’s Nkandla homestead that do not relate to security…,” Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng ruled on Thursday, in a unanimous Constitutional Court judgment. He said the National Treasury should to determine a “reasonable percentage”, which ought to be paid back personally by Zuma. The Treasury … Read the full article…

SONA, the Disruption SA has Been Waiting For?

Mike Hampton Posted on 10th Feb 2016 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Elections are on their way, possibly heralding an eventual fight for South Africa’s #1 position. For those who consider South Africa, in many ways, to be an undeclared dictatorship, it would be welcome news. The above advert for SONA 2016 (State of the Nation Address) seems to be anything except what is expected i.e. protests in Plein Street and disruption within Parliament as the EFF and DA go on the attack, possibly for the first time sensing a weakness in President Jacob Zuma as strong rumours suggest that high-ranking ANC … Read the full article…

Jacob Zuma Got a Raw Deal

Mike Hampton Posted on 28th Oct 2014 by mikehampton21st Jan 2021

This R250-million house is part of a gated community called Steyn City that has been planted next to the township of Diepsloot in between JHB and Pretoria. The initial phase costs R6-billion. Eventually, it’ll host 11 000 residences, sports facilities, a private hospital, two private schools,a  retirement village and a number of office parks. Half the estate will be a park which will include a 42km running track. One way to escape crime is to build a city you never have to leave. It’s just a bit odd that the … Read the full article…

South Africa’s Economy is in Intensive Care Unit

Mike Hampton Posted on 28th Oct 2014 by mikehampton28th Oct 2014

In her latest newsletter, Helen Zille says that “South Africa’s economy is in the Intensive Care Unit.” I agree with her! Even dodo birds and dinosaurs agree, nodding their heads for fear of extinction. Every single one of you (black, coloured, white and yellow) should be deeply worried. I may not like Helen for betraying Knysna, Plett and Oudtshoorn but i give her speech writers credit when they’re making a valid point. Here’s what she has to say about our toilet economy and Jacob Zuma’s plans to make it even … Read the full article…

Nkandla versus Knysna

Mike Hampton Posted on 29th Aug 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

I love Zapiro! His cartoons cut to the bone whilst making me giggle. Truth hurts but we may as well smile after gaining it. Thinking of Nkandla, their population is basically the size of Knysna and Plett together. If that money that was spent on that rural town, that doesn’t carry the importance of our N2, had been spent here, everyone would have houses, all our aging pipes replaced, potholes fixed and our dam built. Why does Nkandla get a R1billion road and a R250million house and Knysna doesn’t? Because … Read the full article…
