The ANC and DA Take Oudtshoorn Battle to the Highest Court

11 opposition councillors from the DA/Cope coalition in Oudtshoorn Municipality were removed by the Speaker (whose NPP in coalition with the ANC) from their positions for non-attendance of 3 consecutive meetings early in 2014. It was the latest salvo in the war for the town and, like the rest, was soon to be mired in costly legal battles funded by unwilling taxpayers. Without a quorum, no decision taken at Council could be legal, thus placing a huge spanner in the cogs of the administration.

Ivan Meyer, the DA Western Cape Leader and Oudtshoorn Constituency Head, has condemned the ANC for using taxpayers cash for legal battles in Oudtshoorn and applauded Judge Roger’s decision to charge costs to ANC Speaker Stoffels. I’m also very glad that part of the bill is going to be paid by a politician and undoubtedly the DA will find evidence of further ANC abuse in Oudtshoorn but Ivan Meyer’s hypocrisy stinks more than a oil tanker fill of rotten fish. Why should my Knysna and Plettenberg Bay readers care about Oudtshoorn? Because we all fall under Eden District and the same big politicians who are suppose to be fighting for OUR rights have repeatedly shown THEIR true faces there.
