Eleanore Bouw-Spies, the ex-ANC Mayor of Knysna, has joined the DA and announced that she’s running for the Ward 5 seat (Rheenendal to Brenton-on-Sea) in the forthcoming by-election after Councillor Magda Williams (DA) died last month. Elsewhere this may be considered as an April Fool’s joke but as Winter approaches, it’s just another day in the roller-coaster/steam-roller that is Knysna’s politics wherein power makes no sense and the public has little input beyond biased, uneducated voting. DA Councillor Magda Williams, is Dead

Knysna DA Councillor, Magda Williams, died on Sunday at the age of 59, allegedly from a heart attack. Magda has had a tough time in recent years with her son, Dawid, murdered in 2006 and her daughter, Deidre, run over in 2012 by a driver (who attempted to flee but was stopped by residents). Additionally, she had to deal with challenges in her community such as the Rheenendal school bus crash and the rape and murder of nine-year-old, Rosaline Philander. The province’s standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) is expecting a busy 2013 but will be focusing on an important matter carried over from last year, a subject dear to us in Knysna, the Rheenendal bus crash.
